7. University showcase: Points of View, Yours,
mine and theirs – York St Johns University

• I chose to watch St Johns universities videos because I'm interested in the facility. It’s a media orientated Uni focusing on drama.
• Grandpa wanted to bungy jump but was to scared to do so. Some interesting shots which captivated the viewer. The DOP talked
about the problems elderly people had during lockdown. "overcoming adversity" using locations to provide time to put dialogue.
• In the second film, they used black and white colours to show the pain that the family endured. A technique seen regularly in
movies. Simulated schizophrenia in the second film to show the effects of the condition. The voice of the narrator is the victim
of schizophrenia, an unknown perspective provided to the viewer. Narratives from people who are close to the main
character. Again in reference to the amount of points of view.
• In the tried film, they used slow and melancholic shots to display the emotion that the actor was talking about. Symbolising
depression and the stages of life he went through. The director mentioned the different stages of mental health and the challenges
faced through each one. The focus was minimalistic, not to overpower the narrators. He asked anonymous people so that he
can get perspectives which are open and real.
• As a whole, providing perspectives will give the viewer an insight to mental health and the problems linked to them. As they
answered my question, they mentioned that mental health was not the initial subject to cover, but that’s what is being talked
about in 2020.
