3. Why this presentation?
• In my interaction with Ms Fauzia Wahab, PPP
Info Secy and MNA over the last couple of
years, I found a dedicated Pakistani serving
the nation to her level best.
• This effort is part of my ongoing efforts to
recognize and assist her in her endeavor for a
stronger Pakistan.
4. His Highness and Excellency,
The President of Pakistan
• AS SEEN AT WIKIPEDIA, A GLOBAL KNOWLEDGE AUTHORITY
• Asif Ali Zardari آصف علی زرداری
– Born 26 July 1955 is the 11th and current President of
Pakistan and the Co-Chairman of the Pakistan Peoples
Party (PPP). Zardari is the widower of Benazir Bhutto, who twice
served as Prime Minister of Pakistan. When his wife was
assassinated in December 2007, he became the leader of the
Pakistan People's Party.
– He is considered to be among the five richest men in Pakistan
with an estimated net worth of US$1.8 billion (2005).

5. Family
• AS SEEN AT WIKIPEDIA, A GLOBAL KNOWLEDGE AUTHORITY
• Asif Ali Zardari belongs to a Shia Muslim, Sindhi Baloch (Sindhi
speaking) family from Sindh.[5][6]
– He was born in Karachi and is the son of Hakim Ali Zardari, head of one
of the Sindhi tribes,[1][7] who chose urban life over rustic
surroundings. His mother is from the family of Khan Bahadur Hasan Ali
Effendi, who was among the founders of the first educational
institution in Sindh, "Sindh Madarsa-tul-Islam Karachi".
– Zardari received his primary education from the Karachi Grammar
School and his secondary education from Cadet College,
Petaro.[5] While a candidate for parliament, a position for which a
2002 rule requires a college degree, Zardari claimed to have graduated
from a college in London.

6. The President…
• Mr Asif Ali Zardari, in
addition to being the
President of Pakistan is:
– A responsible and loving
father of three children
– Co Chair of PPP and
husband of late BB
– An innovative problem
solver
– An astute businessman
– An honest and sincere
Pakistani
7. Why is his image change required-1
• Marriage to politics and enemity
– Mr Zardari was thrust into political limelight
– by his marriage to the late Mohtarma Benazir
Bhutto, Daughter of the East, of Shaheed Zulfikar
Ali Bhutto
– As customary in 3rd world countries his image was
tarnished by political foes and enemies of his
wife, to gain power through disrepute of
Mohtarma’s close family
8. Why is his image change required-2
• Frankness and power use image
– Mr Zardari has led an outspoken and frank public life,
which has again been misused by political foes to tarnish
his image
– Whilst Pakistani politics and business since time
immemorial has dictated misuse of power and resource, it
is unfortunate that a larger brunt fell on Mr Zardari then
justified or shared with his contemporaries
– Hence while other political and army leaders of Pakistan
have been extremely corrupt, no one talks about them and
Mr Zardari is singled out for blame in common man
discussions
9. Why is his image change required-3
• The Bhutto Legacy
– Mr Zardari was always overshadowed by the persona of his
glamorous (late) wife, Mohtarma, her charisma was hard to
match by any other Pakistani leader let alone himself
– Her untimely death propelled him into power that he had not
experienced or anticipated, yet he most graciously handled her
and party’s affairs, he united the party to gain power against the
“ruling” dictator
– His intelligence and political farsightedness is represented on a
small scale in “Bilawal Bhutto Zardari” name change
– He single handledly saved Pakistan through two words:
“Pakistan Khabbay” which unified the country at the time
10. Why is his image change required-4
• To capitalize on his STRENGTHS
– Mr Zardari, in a short span of one year has proven to be a
formidable negotiator both inside and outside the country
– He led the PPP, which was no easy challenge after
Mohtarma’s demise
– He uprooted a dictator besides laying at bay a strong
political foe through sheer intelligence
– He is earnestly looking for ways to solve the common
man’s problems, his priorities are curbing extremism,
energy, agriculture, livelihood, progress for the nation
11. In short, to the public mind
• The POPULAR perception of Mr Zardari is a far cry from
his REAL self, this is what the comman man/woman of
Pakistan thinks:
– Mr Asif Ali Zardari sprung to power at the demise of his
wife, since there was no one else to lead
– He was hence not “accepted” as a leader by the masses
due politics, but a product of circumstances driven
leadership
– His weaknesses and image has been openly and publicly
exploited to the extent of derogation which prompted the
“anti-SMS” directive
12. So, how do we change his image?
Make Zardari
the GREATEST
LEADER OF OUR TIMES
– First of all, we have to understand, and accept the
underlying causative factors discussed, denial of the
obvious perception will only compound his problems, not
solve them
– Shift focus to genuine problem and people based
leadership then cosmetic image changes
– National and international forces against Pakistan and
Mr Zardari have (and are) fuelled(ing) this perception
13. Making a Leader, out of a Leader!
• There is no doubt that Mr Asif Ali Zardari is a
great Leader of our times, he has proven that
• However, his perception greatly lags behind
• So what do we need to do to change the
perceptions of the President of Pakistan to
what is the truth, then hearsay and fiction?
14. Three Point Agenda
• The President’s image can and will be restored
through the following 3 point agenda:
– Build credibility in own and other parties
– Build a long term, consensus based national plan
and sell the idea to the PPP and all other parties,
filtering down to EVERY resident and expatriate
Pakistani
– Build international credibility and goodwill
15. The mechanics
• On engagement by the President’s office, a
complete plan will be submitted, after a face to
face interaction and discussion with his Highness
and Excellency, the President of Pakistan.
• My solution is Zardari-Pakistan-2015 to be
discussed in-person-this solution will ensure that
the President of Pakistan is LOVED by not only his
friends but also his foes, in his life and beyond.
