2. A direct employment
In 2022, when you wake up, it is school time
and work time at the same time because
companies are cooperating universities
around the world that gives you a chance to
learn while experiencing the real working
environment. This is not an internship but a
studying trip where you can apply right away
what you are learning.
3. Trends
- Automated manufacturing: dominance of knowledge-based
economy.
- IT and (technical) engineering will play a more pivotal role.
- Decentralization: higher mobility will not require centralization of
the job market.
- Higher possibility of working from home, flexible hours and
creative job tasks.
- Future employees will be more flexible and chosen based on various
criteria, not just purely based on education or experiences.
Companies will be looking for potentials and passion.
- More communication beyond the borders (social media) will
reduce job mobility barriers.
4. Work/life
- Recruiting: focus on the fit between the employee and
the organizational culture. Creating greater degree of
self-fulfillment and enjoyment.
- Less distinction between work and life.
- More bonding with colleagues, not just business.
- Your life is not shared between private and job, they are
combined together. Going to work becomes an
enjoyment of self-fulfillment and achievement.
- Creativity is highly valued in the company, each of the
employee has an opportunity to present his/her own
creative idea regarding to work every month.
5. Day at work
I wake up at 8 a.m., right when my body had enough sleep and I
can get ready to work. My working hour is rather flexible, we
do not need to be there at a certain time, as long as we finish
our daily task, we can show up whenever we like to. But I need
to be there today before the video conference.
My transportation to work is fully charged and ready to go: a
two-seated electric city-car. Automated driving mode gives me
time to prepare for the day.
After arriving at work I get ready for a video conference with our
Shanghai-office concerning a consultancy project for a
multinational company with offices in Europe and Asia. Final
report will require minor adjustments, which I will finish in
the evening at home.
6. Day at work
In the afternoon I have a training in the following course: Doing
Business in Africa. The region has experienced highest GDP
growth numbers and the demand for services is soaring. The
class is given online by an external mentor and attended by
my colleagues from various regions. I and my colleagues will
be responsible for our new office in Nairobi.
In the evening I finish my on-going project and presentation the
next morning goes as planned and is a success. The rest of the
day I'm free and I use that time to do sports. I spend my
evening with my most important "project" - my family.
7. Education Trends
- Free education for all: through Massive Online Open
Courses sponsored by universities around the world.
- Students will then be available to choose a course online
(of another university) which they find interesting/useful
- Better fit between education and work, no more gap or
probation, newly graduates will fit right away in the work
environment.
- No more university ranking, all the top universities
around the world will open their doors for students of all
age who are eager to learn.
8. Day at university
Class starts with a debate form where the professor is no longer the center of
the course, students are required to prepare in advance at home and come
to the class to have a debate with professor. The aim is to prepare students
with a critical thinking and form their individual opinion. Participation can
be both online or in person.
The assignment will not be involved any more paper writing but more field
work. Students are encourage to do an internship during the semester any
time they want and as long as they wish. School has a fund to sponsor
student's internship and fieldwork.
No more master thesis or doctor's thesis writing to obtain a degree. Students
are encouraged to accomplish a mission with an enterprise or an
organization of their choice.
9. Conclusion
- Fit between education and work
- Greater freedom for students in choosing their
curriculum
- Online education - lifelong learning
- The world becomes more like a village where
communication is faster and easier.
