COMPARATIVE ASSESSMENT
TRADITIONAL
BUSINESS
MICRO SOCIAL BUSINESS
Don’t usually focus on
social causes.
Each MSB will address
one social cause/problem
in the community.
Don’t provide micro
credit to launch
another business.
After being profitable
each MSB will support at
least one underprivileged
youth to launch another
MSB.
No traditional business
is aligned with UN’s
Millennium
Development Goal
(MDGs)
MSB will primarily focus
on the issues which are
related to MSB.
Provides employment
opportunity to
educated and
privileged youth.
Semi educated and
underprivileged youth can
be self employed by MSB.
COMPARISION WHAT GLOBAL YOUTH LEADERS
THINK ABOUT MSB?
"MSB sounds really promising and model is easy
to adopt, reachable, Impact based and important
part is - this kind of model is real need for youth
especially students.“
- Jatin Kataria ( India)
"In Venezuela I have seen micro credits, but not
in the social business area, as you say, MSB
sounds to me as an unexplored mixture."
- Carlo López Scutaro (Venezuela)
“This initiative is brilliant and quite relevant in
poor countries, as one of the greatest challenges
of SME growth and development, especially at
the grassroots is lack of finance.”
- C:F Alumni Feedback
A MSB PROTOTYPE
• Jhal muri (local food) seller  Requires BDT 2000/USD 25 to start
• Road side tea & snacks Requires BDT 1200/USD to start
• Flower seller Requires BDT 1500/USD 20 to start
• Fruit seller/Water supply Require BDT 5000/ USD 60 to start
There are 30 million unemployed people in Bangladesh and
about 50% of them are illiterate, semi-educated. (ILO data)
This is road side tea seller in Dhaka, Bangladesh. A MSB of
this type can be launched with 5000 BDT or 70 USD.
Tea, Biscuits, Bread, Candy, Mineral water are the common
items which are sold in this type of store.
OTHER MSB POSSIBILITIES:
MSB will be open a wide opportunity to them by enabling
them with micro credit.
Please note: BDT refers to Bangladeshi Taka and the amount mentioned is done on the basis of approximation after
discussing MSB opportunities with few underprivileged youth.
