During World War 2, Mexican Americans and Mexicans working in the US faced discrimination, even when serving in the armed forces. To address labor shortages, the US established the Bracero Program to bring Mexican farm workers, known as Braceros, to work on US farms. Over 200,000 Braceros worked in US agriculture and industry during this time. Additionally, young Mexican Americans in Los Angeles faced harassment and attacks from white sailors for their fashion of wearing zoot suits, which led to tensions and violence between the groups.
