2. I. Students have the following previous
knowledge from 6th and 7th grade
standards.(SCIENCE SUBJECT)
II. All plants and animals, including
humans, are alike in some way or others.
III. All plants and animals, including
humans, have internal parts and external
structures that function to keep them
alive and help them to grow and
reproduce.
3. INTRODUCTION
DEFINITION OF CELL
DISCOVERY OF CELL
CELL SHAPE AND CELL NUMBER
BODIES IN A CELL
NUCLEUS
COMPARISION OF ANIMAL AND PLANT

4. Different sets of organs
perform different sets of
functions in an organism.
In this topic you will learn
about basic unit of a cell.
Cells may be compared to
bricks. As bricks are
arranged to make A
building likewise cells are
arranged to make the body
of every organism.
5. The cell (from latin cella,
meaning “small room”) is
the basic
structural, functional,
and biological unit of all
known organism. A cell is
the smallest unit of life.
Cells are often called the
“buildings blocks of life”.
The study of cells is called
cell biology or cellular
biology.
7. One day ROBERT HOOKE
took a part of the bark of a
tree which he termed as a
cork.
Then he observed that thin
slices of cork under a simple
magnifying device.
8. He noticed partitioned boxes or compartments
in the cork slice.
These boxes appeared like a honeycomb. He
also noticed that one box was separated from
the other by a wall or partition.
Then Hooke termed that boxes as a “cell”
9. NUMBER OF CELLS-
The number of cells in an
organisms ranges from
one to more than billions.
Organism made up of one
cell are known as
Unicellular. E.g.-
Amoeba, paramecium
Organism made up of
more than one cells are
known as Multicellular
e.G.- Human body
10. The shape of
the cells
maybe-
1. Round
2. Spherical
3. Elongated
4. Spindle shape(long
and pointed at both
ends)
5. Long branched
12. It is an important
component of the living cell.
It is generally spherical and
located in the centre of the
cell.
Nucleus is separated from
the cytoplasm by a
membrane called the
nuclear membrane.
