This document summarizes the Sunday School program for Christ Presbyterian Church on June 14, 2015. It includes a list of Sunday School teachers organized by class level. It discusses reasons why parents and teachers are involved in Sunday School, such as for children to learn about God, spend time in fellowship, and for teachers to enjoy seeing children learn and grow in their faith. The document also notes issues with the current Sunday School model, such as teacher burnout. It then introduces a new Christian Education model that shifts Sunday School to monthly events and breaks classes into two larger age groups to allow for more discussion and involvement of others in the church.
As a busy working mom, I treasure the little moments of joy that come with being a mom to little ones. There’s so many great things that my 4-year-old and 6-year-old are teaching me—about myself and about life. Here are just a few of the greatest of the great.

Updates to Children, Youth, and Family Ministries at Saint MichaelRoss Badgett
There are some very exciting new developments to Saint Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church's children and youth ministry programs, and we want you to know all about them!
We asked a parent of Crossroads Christian Academy why she chose that school over all of the other Christian schools in Atlanta. Here are her eight reasons.
Since 2006 I have been involved in High School Ministry through My Outreach group Africa Youth Rescue Initiative and under Kenya Students Christian Fellowship and these are great lessons that I have learnt in the field and from Mwalimu Michael Gachohi who is a great mentor in high school ministry.
1. Demography
65% of the population in Kenya is below the age of 18yrs. The majority of our teenagers are in one secondary school or the other.
2. Research findings. In a research a few years ago, the respondents in some urban churches in Nairobi were asked to indicate the age at which they received Christ as their Lord and savior. The final analysis is shown below.
70yrs and above 0%
50 – 69yrs 1%
30 – 49yrs 5%
20 – 29yrs 15%
4 – 19yrs 79%
Where then should we invest our time and resources as a church and as individuals?
3. The opportunity
The students are in school at least 9 months p.a and 9hrs per day for the day scholars. This presents a golden moment to share with them the gospel. I am not advocating that the teacher to use their lesson to preach (although it may be ok once in a while to mention something), rather, we should model the Christian life to the students
A teacher having 16 lessons each of 40 minutes a week, each of 40 students has 25,600 man minutes or 427man hrs or 18 man days with the learners per year. This translates to 44 days p.a. of 24 hrs each. If we do not reach them effectively when in high school, they may eventually become unreachable. We will give an account of what we did with the opportunities God gave us.
4. Cost effectiveness
The students are mostly already organized for you. There is no adverts in the media, no sourcing security etc. the cost is mainly time and some fare. Those involved in organizing evangelism meetings/crusades in churches know how costly an effective meeting is.
5. Impact on church and society.
i. A strong Christian union is very helpful in instilling values and discipline amongst the students
ii. Most decisions made in teenage are lifetime decisions. We should assist in making them decide to follow Christ. That is why cooperates target the youth in their adverts.
Many leaders in the church today, such as Dr David Oginde, the Bishop emeritus of CITAM, & Bishop Mark Kariuki of DC gave their lives to the Lord while in High School. The same applies to innumerable Pastors, Elders and Deacons. The Lord eternally bless the people who took their time to minister to those students.
6. Obedience to the great commission
Mat 28:18 And Jesus came and spoke unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. 19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: 20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen.
Mar 16:15 And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.

September 2013 Chapel Time with The Lord's Prayer Movements and The Creation ...Geoff McLean
Chapel Time with Pastor Geoff
September 2013
Today your child participated in our monthly Chapel Time. The goal of our chapel time is to introduce the children to the basic concepts of the Christian faith and practices.
Our intention is not to convert your child or indoctrinate them. Rather, we seek to share with them stories that can instruct them regardless of their religious affiliation. As with our overall preschool program, we hope that this time will help them become loving and caring citizens of the world.
Our subject for Chapel Time this month was the story of creation which is found in Book of Genesis. For Christians, this is a story about how all of life is of and from God. Important in this story is that God chooses humans to be special in the creation, and created in the image of God.
Care has been taken to allow for interpretation at home as to how this Biblical story interacts with other views of creation. I encourage you to talk with your child about how they are special creations of God.

4. Why do parents bring their
children Sunday School?
Learn about God
Quiet time to experience
fellowship without kids
Time for adult Sunday School
Get to know the other families
in church
What are some reasons you bring your
child to Sunday School?
5. Why do teachers teach Sunday School?
I get to be goofy for God. It’s a great creative outlet. I
love the personal challenge of presenting the bible in a
fresh way that they don’t even realize they are
“learning” cause they are having too much fun. I also
get a huge sense of satisfaction when a kid finally
“gets it”. It gives me hope for the future of the world.
When a child who spends most of a year asking for
prayers only for themselves all the sudden asks for
prayers out of a concern for someone else - you come
face to face with the blessing of showing a child the
transforming power of God’s love.
My biggest benefit then is the joy of seeing the kids
understand the lesson, especially the scripture.
The children are a blessing and taking time out from
our “busy” days to show that they are important is the
least we can do. It’s what Jesus did.
6. Why do teachers teach Sunday School?
The personal benefit I get from teaching Sunday
School is bringing myself to the children's level of
simplistic understanding. I enjoying seeing their
viewpoint. I actually think that I learn from them. They
put things into a complete new perspective for me.
It has forced me to learn more about the Bible. I
continue to strive to learn the lessons in children's
Bible and lesson plan and reflect on them with my own
children because I know that they have learned the
same thing that I did that week. I also want to be a role
model for them so I let them know that they are not the
only ones that learned something spiritually.
I would tell them that children had a lot more to teach
us then we give them credit for. They are the reason
why many of us strive to be better people. They bring
us joy, especially to those who teach Sunday school
whose children may already be grown.
7. Why do teachers teach Sunday School?
One benefit of teaching Sunday School is a better
understanding myself of the events/stories in the Bible
and secondly, watching the kids grow and progress as
well. Teaching the kids the parts of the Bible and the
different seasons and continually reviewing also
provides them an education with Christian Education.
The interaction with kids is amazing especially when
they can bring their own life experiences into the
lesson.
Not only are you putting smiles on the kids’ faces and
watching them grow but it is also an awesome learning
experience as an adult. Some of the stories in the Bible
are really hard to understand but seeing the stories
through the kids eyes and more down to earth gives
me a better understanding of the Bible as well.
8. Issues With The Current
Sunday School Model
Too few kids in some classes means we
lose opportunity for lively discussion
Teacher burn-out
Only on Sunday
When attendance is low, teachers combine
classes
Children don’t have the opportunity to learn
from other enriching experiences or others
with special gifts and talents
9.
10. The New Model for Christian Education
Shifting from “Sunday School” to Christian Education
to insure we don’t limit opportunities to grow on just
Sundays
Have monthly “all hands” special events
• May include mission projects
• May include crafts, music and outside programs
Classes broken down two “learning” groups
• Grades K thru 5
• Grade 6 through HS
• Preschool in the nursery (participation in the
monthly programs)
Continuing Lectionary Curriculum to connect with
worship, music and other areas of our congregational
life.
Allow teachers to teach less frequently but with more
energy and creativity
Engage others with special talents and gifts for
monthly events
11.
12. How will these changes help
Christ Presbyterian Church grow a
vibrant Christian Education Ministry?
Larger groups of children provide
opportunity for games and conversation not
possible today
Allow teachers to re-energize and work as a
larger team
Introduce children to other adults in the
church who don’t teach them each week
