- MAA: As Defined by Oracle
- In order to provide maximum availability consider building Oracle Real Application Clusters coupled with Oracle Data Guard using a Physical Standby databases on 10g R2, Oracle 11g provides Active Data Guard which combines Physical and Logical data guards into a single database DR platform. Oracle RAC addresses the need for high availability and scalability; Data Guard addresses the event of site failure. This deployment will allow for fast failover to the standby in the event of loss of service on the primary site. The standby is kept in near real time synchronization with the primary via a technology known as archive log transport and apply facility. Additional standbys (up to nine) can be added to the complex, the standby can also be defined as a logical standby which can be opened in query mode for reporting or data mining purposes without impacting the primary’s performance and resources.
