Virtual Macro Site Analysis using Wireless Sensor Networksluca-bencini
The Internet of Things vision introduces the capability of connecting smart sensor/actuators to locally available networks in order to allow the interaction with the real world. The two visions are, thus, perfectly integrated and ideally suited to perform the task of collecting simple information from the surrounding environment. Using smart distributed sensors and implementing data fusing and mining algorithms the final user is enabled to access real time data, and, undertake appropriate actuation strategies, via Internet, anytime and everywhere worldwide. This paper describes a successful application of the above concept in a challenging environmental monitoring context, concerning the remote management of a vineyard. The application is a successful result of the 6th FW European Integrated Project GoodFood. The paper reports a real case study concerning the deployment of four pilot sites in four different vineyards located in Italy, Chianti region, and in France. The deployed systems, in one case operating for more than two years, exhibit unprecedented stand-alone and undiscontinued operation capability, with millions collected
data so far , thus representing the state-of-the-art in the application of WSN technology to wine production management. The systems, far beyond being a simple technology demonstrator includes advanced agronomic prediction models capable of supporting critical management decisions in irrigation and chemical treatment management at unprecedented time/space scale. A major outcome was to establish a spin-off, Netsens Srl, which has developed a proprietary WSN solution for agriculture/environment monitoring now ready to
market.

Early diagnosis of infectious diseases and monitoring of community health are essential
for delivering cost-effective healthcare solutions. Healthcare delivery in developing coun-
tries have many challenges because they do not have enough resources for meeting the
healthcare needs, and they lack testing lab infrastructures in communities. It is necessary that a solution must be developed to safeguard the impacted communities. It has
been proven that Point-Of-Care (POC) testing can be considered as one of the ways to
resolve the crisis in healthcare delivery in these communities. The term 'POC testing'
has been used in many contexts. Use case, where a passenger in an autonomous vehicle
is driven to the nearest hospital for an emergency treatment due to an alert received by
the health monitoring system in the car. The POC that the research exploring is for
the use for a remote patient who does not have access to lab testing facilities because of
the social and economic conditions in that community.
The POC testing is a mission critical processes in which the patient conduct tests in a
home environment, as opposed to the tests undertaken otherwise in a laboratory facility
and it needs a communication system of architecture support which the research refers
as POCT system. The research looked at the requirements and made recommendations concerning critical aspects: requirements gathering for POCT system, design and
development methods of secure communication architecture, finding a suitable strategy
for testing the system and project managing the end-2-end process.
Data security is another critical factor in healthcare data. The research came up with
secure data communication architecture and processes for the system. A secure data
storage for the test results are needed, and the research came up with an architecture
for cloud storage. Deployment and expansion of the secure communication system are
essential for practical use cases based on community needs, and a scalable communication
architecture was developed to support the objective.
The Future Internet Research and Experimentation - FIRE - current offer to customers from industry (including SMEs) and research includes access to testbed facilities for the purpose of technology, product and service development and testing, as well as knowledge, methods and tools for experimenters and product and service developers. FIRE’s offer in the next years will transform towards a service-oriented framework where the concept of Experimentation as a Service (EaaS) will be central.
This publication gives an insight into what is real and usable today in FIRE including FIRE success stories and information how to get access to FIRE facilities together with the FIRE project descriptions.

networks. LoRaWANTM, with its physical (PHY) layer using CSS, has emerged as the widely accepted
LPWAN solution. By using CSS modulation with orthogonal spreading factors (SF), LoRa offers wide
coverage to LPWAN applications while supporting a high volume of devices. However, scalability
performance of CSS has not been inadequately modeled. As with the suitability of the modulation scheme,
there are concerns on how chirps interact with the surrounding as the number of deployments bursts out
into higher volumes. We evaluate CSS at ISM band 868 MHz for spreading factor 7 to 12 at bandwidth 125
kHz for performance and scalability. Simultaneous transmissions were simulated with repeated iterations
and conclusions are arrived on collisions rate, packet error rate, and bit error. Suitability of using CSS for
sensor networks for future deployments is commended.

Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).
