DNS Business Development Workshop
Course Overview
This course is designed to provide a basic understanding of the Domain Name System (DNS) industry and business drivers to enable entrepreneurs to understand potential business opportunities in this industry.
The course will focus on practical issues where appropriate, with case studies and listings of available resources and vendors in the industry. Ample time will be included for networking opportunities and identifying available resources for on-going assistance after the conclusion of the course.
The course will occur over a 5 day period, with an early end on the last day to accommodate travel schedules
Discusses how country-code top-level domains (ccTLDs) and legacy gTLDs will co-exist with the new gTLD launching on the Internet. Presented by Tom Barrett, President of EnCirca at Middle East DNS Forum, Amman, Jordan, March 10. 2015.
The Internet itself is a globally distributed computer network comprised of many voluntarily interconnected autonomous networks. Similarly, its governance is conducted by a decentralized and international multistakeholder network of interconnected autonomous groups drawing from civil society, the private sector, governments, the academic and research communities, and national and international organizations. They work cooperatively from their respective roles to create shared policies and standards that maintain the Internet’s global interoperability for the public good.

Future of the Internet | Media Briefing from Bangkok, Thailand [19 August 2015]ICANN
Slides used at a media briefing to discuss "The Future of the Internet" in Bangkok, Thailand on 19 August. ICANN and local IT leaders discussed the continued development of the Internet's Domain Name System and Internet growth in the Asia Pacific region, how the region can increase Internet penetration and leverage the Internet more innovatively.
The main objective of the Lynx research and innovation project is to create an ecosystem of smart cloud services to better manage compliance, based on a Legal Knowledge Graph (LKG) that integrates and links multilingual and heterogeneous compliance data sources including legislation, case law, standards, regulations and other private contracts, besides others.
This webinar is the kick off of a webinar series of in total 4 webinars taking place between December 2020 and March 2021 (Webinar 1: Lynx overview, Webinar 2: Business Cases, Webinar 3: Technology of Lynx, Webinar 4: The Lynx Services) as well as a virtual event taking place on 17th of March 2021, 09.30 - 12.00pm CET including panel discussions and expert sessions on Lynx related topics (knowledge graphs, legaltech, compliance solutions, etc).
A number of years ago, while at Oregon State University's Open Source Lab, I was asked to brief the federal government on a number of collaborative projects in public safety and law enforcement. Some have produced open source code, most have produced code to share with fellow agencies which use an open source approach but are not licensed under a traditional open source license, however all have maximized cross-agency collaboration and with limited resources. Shared now by request.
Courts around the world are creating Internet law right now--a process that is both exciting and frightening to watch. Unlike other areas of commerce that can turn to historical traditions to help settle disputes and guide the development of the law, the law of the Internet has no history to fall back on. "Cyber law" is instead being developed by judges who must do their best to fit legal disputes on the Internet into preexisting legal frameworks. As a result, the legal principles governing conduct and commerce in cyberspace are still in a state of flux.
Between 2009 and 2012 the Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE) funded a series of programmes to encourage higher education institutions in the UK to release existing educational content as Open Educational Resources (OER) and to embed open practices in the institution. The HEFCE funded UK OER Programmes were run and managed by the JISC and the Higher Education Academy. Over the course of three years about £15M (€17,5M) was invested on projects that investigated the release and collection of OERs by individuals, institutions and subject communities. The Cetis “OER Technology Support Project” provided support for technical innovation across this programme.
In this conference paper we will present our reflections on the technical approaches taken, issues raised and the lessons learnt from the Programmes and the Support Project. The issues covered include resource management, resource description, licensing and attribution, search engine optimisation and discoverability, tracking OERs, and paradata (activity data about learning resources). Technical solutions discussed will include the use of social sharing platforms such as flickr and WordPress for resource dissemination; metadata embedded in HTML documents as RDFa, microdata and using the schema.org ontology; and sharing metadata and paradata using the Learning Registry (a network of schema-free data stores). As well as describing the achievements of the programme, we will also discuss the difficulties encountered and identify areas where further work is required.
