P. Ramlee was a famous Malaysian singer, actor, composer and director who made significant contributions to the entertainment industry in Asia. He was born in Penang in 1929 and had a successful career acting in and directing over 60 films. Two museums in Penang - the P. Ramlee House and War Museum - provide exhibits about his life and work as well as depicting the history of World War 2 in Malaysia. The Penang Museum also showcases the cultural heritage of the various ethnic groups in Penang.
