The document discusses a study that examined the effectiveness of Internet-based grammar instruction (IBGI) compared to conventional pen-and-paper instruction (CPBI) for English language learners. The study found that students who received IBGI made fewer grammatical errors and scored higher on tests of parts-of-speech, subject-verb agreement, and tenses than students who received CPBI. However, not all grammatical items could be effectively taught using Internet-based instruction.

1) The document describes a study that examined the impact of using Knowledge Building forums on the development of English language skills for Spanish students.
2) Sixty-seven Spanish students participated in the study, engaging with Knowledge Building forums and completing pre- and post-tests of their English abilities.
3) The results showed that collaborative writing in the forums significantly improved students' English writing skills and comprehension, but did not necessarily improve their vocabulary or specific grammar skills.
The document summarizes a proposed method for reducing over-generation errors in automatic keyphrase extraction using integer linear programming. It formulates keyphrase extraction as a combinatorial optimization problem to find the optimal set of keyphrases. An ILP model is defined that represents the value of a keyphrase set as the sum of unique word weights, outperforming baselines that rank candidates independently. Experiments on scientific documents show the ILP approach substantially improves precision over commonly used methods.
This document discusses achievement tests, which are standardized tests used to evaluate student learning over a period of time. It provides definitions of achievement tests from Ebel and Freeman, which emphasize measuring students' acquired knowledge, skills, and abilities in a specific subject or subjects. The document then outlines the 8 steps to prepare a teacher-made achievement test, including planning, designing test items, reviewing, and administering the test. It also shows examples of designing an achievement test with weightage allocated to objectives, content areas, and question forms, as well as a sample blueprint laying out which test items measure which objectives and content areas.
1. The document discusses a study assessing the effectiveness of multimedia in teaching physics concepts to undergraduate students.
2. Two groups of students were given pre-tests and post-tests on oscillations concepts, with one group receiving traditional lectures and the other receiving additional computer simulations and discussions.
3. Analysis of the results found that the experimental group that received the multimedia instruction showed significantly higher normalized learning gains compared to the control group, indicating that computer-aided instruction can help improve students' understanding of physics principles.
This document summarizes the formulation, implementation, analysis and evaluation of different integer programming models for optimizing student-project allocation.
Model 1 assigns each student to exactly one topic based on their preferences while satisfying supervisor and topic capacity constraints. Model 2 adds penalties to encourage distributing students across more topics without sacrificing preferences. The results are analyzed for student satisfaction and constraint satisfaction. Alternative formulations are reviewed that consider collective satisfaction, fairness and computational cost trade-offs.

Abstract Digital technologies have been used for mea-
surement purposes and whether the test medium influences
the user is an important issue. The aim of this study is to
investigate students’ performances and duration differences
between online and paper–pencil tests. An online testing tool
was developed and administered in order to determine the
differences between the traditional paper–pencil tests and
online tests concerning students’ performances and the
duration on tests. This tool enables to add questions that
utilize an online database and which are in the form of
multiple choice (with 5 or 4 options), true–false, matching,
filling in the blanks, with multiple answers, with short
answers, with long answers, and it also enables to prepare
tests and to turn them into paper–pencil test mode. Perfor-
mance test was applied with both online and paper–pencil
modes on junior students at one of the universities in Turkey.
Besides, the online testing tool developed within the context
of the study was evaluated by instructors with respect to
usability, relevance to the purpose and design. Instructor and
student questionnaires are developed to determine the
opinions on the online testing tool and online tests. Results
showed that there was no significant differences between the
performances on online and paper–pencil tests. On the other
hand, the time they spent on the online test has been longer
than the time they spent on paper–pencil test. Students found
the online testing tool easy to use and stated that online test
medium is more comfortable than paper–pencil tests.
However, they complained about external noises, tiredness,
and focusing problems regarding the online examination
mediums. Generally, instructors have also appreciated the
online testing tool’s design and they agree on the fact that it
serves for its purposes.

Performance and duration differences
Introduction
It is crucial that evaluation reflect a student’s performance.
However, there might be mistakes with the measurement
within the process of evaluation. These mistakes may
source from the measurement tool. Thus, the media in
which the measurement tool is applied is also important.
Digital technologies have been used not only for learning
but also for measurement purposes. However, it has been a
matter of question to what extend this digital environment
will affect a student’s performance.
In the literature of the online tests, it is possible to see
examples of various studies making comparisons between
different types of tests (paper–pencil tests and online tests),
duration, and the decisi.
The document discusses a study that investigated whether allowing middle school students to complete their weekly science homework online would increase homework completion rates compared to traditional paper-based homework. The study found that overall homework completion rates unexpectedly decreased when an online option was provided. While students who chose the online format had higher completion rates and test scores than those using paper, whole class completion rates and average test scores were lower during the online period compared to before. The results suggest that simply providing a digital option for homework does not increase student motivation to complete assignments.

This study investigated the effect of using an online workbook on student attitudes and performance in a second language Spanish course over two semesters. 245 students aged 18-25 participated. Students completed a language background questionnaire, proficiency test, and end of semester assessment. Results showed a significant increase in grammar scores and positive student perceptions of the online workbook's accessibility, usability, and feedback. However, students reported it took a long time to complete online exercises.
Advancing Intelligent Textbooks with Automatically Generated Practice: A Larg...Sergey Sosnovsky
Integrating formative practice questions with textbook content at frequent intervals creates an active learning environment that is more effective for student learning. Advances in artificial intelligence have made it possible to develop automatic question generation systems robust enough for use with students at scale. In this paper, we analyze five types of automatically generated questions using data from hundreds of thousands of students across more than eight thousand textbooks. The difficulty and persistence performance metrics of these questions build on previous research and reveal insights into question performance and student behavior. Metacognitive tutorial activities are also generated, and investigation into students’ open- ended responses show differences in how students apply what they have learned from the text.

The document discusses a study that compared the reading effectiveness of teens using electronic devices versus print materials for academic purposes. The study found that teens scored significantly higher on reading comprehension tests when using print rather than electronic materials. They also took almost twice as long to read on electronic screens. While teens preferred electronic devices for leisure reading, the study showed they read more effectively using printed texts for academic settings.

Improving clinical reasoning skills by means of electronic votingNynke Bos
The document discusses using electronic voting or "clickers" to improve clinical reasoning skills in large medical school lecture groups. It describes a pilot project between two Dutch universities that implemented clickers to present clinical cases to 350 students at a time. Students would use clickers to vote on diagnostic and treatment decisions. Professors could then see voting results in real-time and guide discussion. The goals were to practice more clinical reasoning cases each year with less professors, provide immediate feedback, and evaluate students' reasoning skills. Initial pilot results found that students and professors felt clickers were an engaging supplement to traditional small group learning.

How to Make a Field Mandatory in Odoo 17Celine George
In Odoo, making a field required can be done through both Python code and XML views. When you set the required attribute to True in Python code, it makes the field required across all views where it's used. Conversely, when you set the required attribute in XML views, it makes the field required only in the context of that particular view.

1. Computer based testing vs. paper based testing

Academic Medical Center – University of Amsterdam
The Netherlands
Background
The ‘Klinische Lijn’ (KL) exam is the final exam students have to pass
before they start their internship. The KL is a paper based exam
consisting of 130 case based questions. Developing a computer based
version of the KL offers the possibility of adding multimedia to the KL
exam. Also, the organization of the KL is a complex logistical process,
since eight different medical specialties are involved in providing and
grading the questions. Digitalizing the KL would therefore reduce
logistical problems.
Methods
The first step in digitalizing the KL is to establish whether there are differences between setting a paper based test
and a computer based test. 187 students were assigned to do half of the test on computer and the other half on
paper. Group A (n=99) did the first part on the computer and the second half on paper. Group B (n=88) did the first
part on paper and the second part on the computer. The other 189 students did the whole test on paper at a
different location, due to a shortage of available computers.
A comparison was made on word count, but only with those questions that needed an elaborative answer. Also, the
p-values for each version and each question were calculated to establish whether there was a version of the test
that proved easier.
Results
During the exam, students had the choice to start with either the
digital or the paper part of the test. Nearly all students chose to start
with the digital form. 69.8% of the total number of students (n=376)
passed the KL exam.
The word count proved that students used more words in the digital
part of the exam than in the paper based version (36.2 ± 15.5 vs. 22.3
± 4.9) (P<.05)
An increased word usage would suggest a higher p-value for the
digital test. The average p-values are more or less the same suggesting
that a higher word usage on the computer does not affect the
difficulty level of the computer based test. (0.60 ± 0.18 vs. 0.59 ± 0.17)
Some p-values of the paper version made by group B were higher
compared to those of group A and the control group. Students in
group B started with the second part of the test, which might explain
this difference.
Conclusion
Students use more words on a computer based test than on a paper based test. No significant differences were
found between the p-values, making each test evenly difficult.
Students seemed to prefer the digital settings over the paper based version. It is important that the sequence of the
questions is the same for all students, in order to have equal p-values for all questions.
