ECONOMY
1-In Castilla the Economy was based
on agriculture and livestock farming
2-Merino sheep were very important.
Their high quality wool was exported or
used in the textile industry.
3-Sheep farmers met in assemblies
called mestas.
3-The Honourable Council of the Mesta
was created in 1273 ( Sheep farmers
had a lot of privileges)
4- Sheep moved around a network of
paths , called cañadas that crossed
Castilla from North to South
5- Trashumance was an important
characteristic of Castilian livestock .
The sale of wool contributed to the
development of craftsmanship and
trade

1 Alfonso I el Batallador was the first
King of Aragon. He conquered Zaragoza
in 1118
2 James I the conqueror took
Valencia and he conquered a lot of
territories in the Mediterranean
sea.

conquered Sicily , Cerdeña
and Napoles
4. Aragon´s government
The crown of Aragon was not an unified
State. It was formed by four Kingdoms, Aragon
, Catalonia and Mallorca , Every territory had
its own institutions and customs.
The Generalitat in Catalonia and
Valencia and courts in Aragón
“el Justicia” an institution which defended the
rights of citizens of Aragon ensured that the
fueros and the decisions of the Cortes were
respected
“Los consules del mar” Who judged all
matters about navigation and trade.
