2. Apple
Learners will choose a media company, (from a
given list) and produce a 1000 word case-study
on that company.
Choose from, Disney, Apple, Sony (& SyCo), News
Corporation, Google
Start by telling me what media sector it belongs
to.
What products it produces (cross-media?)
3. Owners
Steve jobs was the co-founder, chairman, and
chief executive officer of Apple, but he died on
October 5th
2011 aged 56 and now Apple is a
public company, meaning that anyone who has
a share of the company owns it. So Apple still
need to elect a new chairman.
Who owns it - has the ownership changed - do
they own any other companies
4. Apple’s Organization
Apple is a vertically integrated company. This
means that everything thing apple sells its made
by them. For example Microsoft only make the
software and then sell it on other computers,
whereas Apple make the software and the
hardware, this is good because they will earn
more money and don’t have to rely on others
making the hardware for them. The
disadvantages though are that if the public don’t
like a product that they sell then apple will lose all
the profit, whereas Microsoft will have already
sold the software and only the hardware
company will lose the profit.
How it is organised, i.e. is it vertically or
5. Apple Competitors
In recent years, it could be argued that most PC
manufacturers were rivals to Apple, like Dell, Alienware,
Gateway etc. but of course you can also factor in
Microsoft as a rival to their Operating System (OS X/XP).
But in recent years they have branched out considerably,
into online media (iTunes, iPhone) so you can factor in
Napster and other legal music download sites, Hotmail and
Gmail, and Nokia, Samsung, Blackberry and alike.
6. Apple Customers
A lot of Apples Customers are in fact
people with there own business. The
reason for this is because of the apps
that you can download on the Apple
products. This is a good use for a
business phone. As well as business
owners using Apple it is also very
popular with the general public.
7. Because Apple Inc. is a global computer
manufacturing company that changes
all the time its hard for them to keep
track of their operations and finances.
Because of this Apple had to redesign
and revaluate its organizational culture
and structure in order to avoid
bankruptcy
8. Apple Inc. did receive criticism when
they were accused of sweatshop labour,
environmental destruction, and unethical
business practices. Additionally it has
been criticised because if its legal policy
of suing people before actually
gathering all of the necessary facts to
peruse a legitimate law suit.
