A leader’sDilemma
Let's get introduced with the dilemma
About 15years ago I and a group of my friends have
joined in an aerospace firm. We have joined as associate
engineer except John who has joined as a drafter as he
has no engineering certificates. We were enjoying our
life inside and outside of firm. After few years of joining
we were promoted except John. As john did not get
promotion his dissatisfaction turn into a devastating
situation which makes me concerned. !!
Probable solution to face dilemma
Do Nothing
Bypass company policy and promote john
Talk john into going back to college
Relocate john to a different project team
Terminate john’s employment
What I have decided to do
I have decided to bypass company policy
to promote john as an senior engineer at
20th grade.
Why I have decided to promote john
It's better solution
Promotion inspires john
It will create opportunity for self development
I will be strict in future
Why I did not accept other potions
Why I did not accept ‘Do nothing’
It means I buried my head into sands.
Other team members will be disappointed
Why I did not accept ‘relocate john to a different project team’
It is less possible
I have already exercised
Why I did not accept ‘talk john into going back to college’
It will disappoint him more
He may nor feel comfort with new boss
Why i did not accept 'Relocate john a different project'
It will disappoint john
He may not feels comport with new boss
Break the teamsprit
Break the ties
Break the social relationship
Why i did not accept 'terminate john employment'
Key behaviors a leader have to acquire addressing
this kind of case
Visionary
A good motivator
Self awareness
Empathy
Technical competent
Work for both company and workers
Personal connection
Acting as a team member
Risk taker
