career choice

Personal Statement
My name is Quantasia Williams, I am currently 19 years old and a first semester
freshman at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University. I am a Fashion
Merchandising and Design major. I was born and raised in Asheville, North Carolina. Most
people know me as the shy, reserved girl while also being very creative and stylish.
I aspire to be a well known, successful Fashion Designer but if that does not work
out (which I hope it does, I am making it a point to happen) I would like to be a visual
artist. I love shopping, sewing, dressing up and drawing and painting. Wherever I go in life
I hope that it will revolve around art as a whole. Art defines who I am. It is my comfort
zone, I am at peace when I am surrounded with art. Fashion designing is a very complex
career. There are many different positions and occupations that can be held in this
industry. When most people hear “fashion design” they tend to think of just sewing and
making clothes to sell, but it is way more to it than that! If I obtain a degree in this field I
will be eligible to work as a fashion merchandiser, an actual designer, management or
even a stylist! That is one reason that I want this to be my profession, I feel as if I will
always have a career if I work within this field since it has so many options and varieties. I
actually want to be a designer working with fabric, fashion illustrations, color, etc. One

2. day, I have dreams of having my own name brand publicized. I want people to walk into a
boutique and see my creations that have come to life.
My second choice is visual art because it has been a part of me my entire life. I feel
as if working in the art field you get freedom and you basically work in a happy place all of
the time and do what you love. There is no definition of art, things just happen. This is
similar to fashion because if I worked in this field I would have many options to consider. I
could draw, paint, sculpt, pottery making, etc. I have the tendency to look at the big
pictures. I want to be able to expand my knowledge and move around in life while having
fun doing it. These careers seem like they’d be really fun to do for the rest of my life! I get
to express myself visually and physically. People can actually see representations of what
goes on in my mind in heart. To me, painting a picture is just like painting my dreams or
one of the million thoughts that run through my head on a daily basis. Being a fashion
designer or an artist would be great. People will be able to either hang my perspective of
life on their wall or either walk around town on a gorgeous day and wear a top and jeans
that express my creativity. You should not work anywhere if your heart and soul will not
be contributed into the job! If my first choice as a designer doesn’t work out I would not
be bummed out for long because I will still be able to show my true colors (literally) but
instead of in a wearable garment it will be on a canvas or paper or anything that you can
put a paint brush on! I can still become an inspiration and maybe these can help me be
heard because people do not usually hear words, they usually make decisions or learn
things based up actions. My paintings or my clothing will be a permanent mark on the

3. society. These are alternatives to help people other than people in a medical field. These
job are not easy and I do not expect them to but I like a challenge if it is fun.
