1. WHO AM I OUTSIDE OF MY
RESUME?
Allison Kay Walters
2. IN THIS PRESENTATION WE
ARE GOING TO BE
ADDRESSING THREE
THINGS:
-Who am I outside my resume?
-How has my personal experience as an
Artist Influenced my Work Ethic?
- Why do my personal experiences make
me the right hire?
3. “
”
IT IS IMPORTANT TO FOSTER
INDIVIDUALITY, FOR ONLY THE
INDIVIDUAL CAN PRODUCE NEW IDEAS.
Albert Einstein
I would like to start this presentation with the above quote as stated by Albert Einstein. It is important to embrace
the different gifts you have been given in order to succeed in this world. My particular gift is art, Being an artist
has taught me many things about who I am and who I hope to be. This will bring us to my first topic “Who am I
outside of my resume?”.
4. WHO AM I OUTSIDE OF MY RESUME?
BELOW YOU WILL FIND THREE SEPARATE PICTURES. I AM GOING TO WALK YOU THROUGH A COMMISSION I DID RECENTLY AND WHAT WE LEARN
THROUGH EACH PHASE OF THE DRAWING. YOU WILL BE ABLE TO SEE WHAT CAN BE LEARNED AND APPLIED TO DIFFERENT AREAS OF OUR LIVES.
This is the beginning of the commission.
When you first start off it’s a rough sketch, but
you know in the end the finished product will
be wonderful. What we learn from the
beginning stage is that every idea starts off
small and seems insignificant. However with a
little time and dedication it can become
something amazing.
We are now into the awkward transition phase
of the drawing. You can see what picture is
forming, it seems close to being done,
however it could still turn out to be a disaster.
This teaches us to keep persevering to see
the rewards of our endeavors. You may be
unsure of how something is going to turn out,
but that doesn’t mean you quit.
From here we have now achieved the finished
product. Most people would think this
particular piece would have taken 3-4 hours.
In reality this piece took 14-16 hours to
complete. Through this we have learned that
just because something looks easy doesn’t
mean it is. We have set a goal for ourselves
and we accomplished it- no matter how much
effort we thought it would take and how much
effort it actually took.
5. NOW YOUR PROBABLY THINKING “ ALLISON YOU JUST WALKED US THROUGH WHAT CAN BE LEARNED
WHEN CREATING ART. WHAT DOES THAT HAVE TO DO WITH WHO YOU ARE OUTSIDE OF YOUR RESUME?”
MY ANSWER FOR YOU WOULD BE, EVERYTHING.
As an artist the different struggles you encounter when making art influence who you are. Some people don’t
attempt to even try art because it’s “too hard”. If you really want to know who I am I would tell you the following. I
am an artist, I am a girl who loves her family and God, and I am a person who never gives up. That’s who I am.
This is the finished piece
side by side a printed copy
of the original.
6. HOW DOES MY PERSONAL EXPERIENCE AS AN ARTIST INFLUENCE MY
WORK ETHIC?
Moving Forward lets now discuss how my experience as an Artist influences my work ethic. I am going to
use a mural that I have done as an example. Below you will see a Children's Mural done at Grace Spring
Bible Church.
7. GSBC MURAL
There are many factors regarding this
mural that speak volumes about my
work ethic.
One thing most people don’t realize is
that this entire mural was done in
painted cross hatched lines. In order to
add dimension it gave the mural a
more cartoon (children friendly) appeal.
The Second thing most people don’t
realize is that this mural is a seven wall
mural that took 7-8 months. I worked
hours and hours, sometimes 18 hours
a day painting the mural.
This mural was purely volunteer based.
The fact that I did that amount of work
of my own free will, shows that I am a
hard dedicated worker.
Please continue unto the next slides to
see up close pictures of the
crosshatching.

11. WHY DO MY PERSONAL EXPERIENCES MAKE ME THE RIGHT HIRE?
• As an Artist I am an extremely detail oriented person. You have to be if you are painting the face of someone’s family
member. They are going to know if you painted the teeth too big or added a complimentary mole…
• I listen to my client and asses the type of work they are looking for, we discuss their needs and expectations. I then
strive to produce the best work possible. Sometimes you end up working with people who don’t know what they want
and you have to breakdown their ideas and see what will work best for them. They have an extremely vague idea and
you get to bring it to life.
• I feel with things that have happened in my life, I am the type of person who will never give up I will keep trying until
my goal is met. In any type of professional environment my skills can be directly parallel to any type of career
objective I may be presented.
As we near the end of my presentation, I hope that you are impressed. If you are not impressed
then hopefully you have at least enjoyed my presentation. My last objective is to tell you why my
personal experiences make me the right person to hire.
