Red Indians, also known as Native Americans, are the indigenous peoples of North America. They were originally called "Red Indians" by Columbus, who mistakenly believed he had reached India. Red Indians lived in numerous tribes across the continent and had diverse cultures and lifestyles, including distinctive foods, clothing, and customs. Some of the most notable events involving Red Indians were the Battle of the Little Bighorn in 1876, where Lakota Sioux and Cheyenne defeated General Custer's troops, and conflicts between English colonists and the Powhatan Confederacy in the early 1600s. Red Indians comprised many distinct tribes and nations across North America before European settlement.
