Assembling your cloud orchestra: A field guide to multi-cloud managementIBM
Operating in a multi-cloud environment is a reality for most organizations today. Whether it’s human resources recruiting candidates, manufacturing tracking shipments, or marketing enticing customers, business units are doing an end-run around their own IT departments to directly access services on the cloud. Instead of ignoring or attempting to stifle organizational forays into multiple clouds, IT needs to facilitate, orchestrate and optimize enterprise multi-cloud footing. Enterprises that assemble harmonized multi-cloud platforms now can magnify their business advantage while optimizing costs. But, it won’t be easy. Join the virtual event to hear how organizations are benefiting and mitigating challenges along with best practices for a successful multi-cloud management system.

Alan Glickenhouse, Digital Transformation Business Strategist at IBM
The emergence of social, mobile, cloud, big data and analytics are fundamentally changing how we live, work and interact.
Mobile devices are ubiquitous. Changing consumer behaviors, supplanting PCs, generating massive amounts of data and putting new demands on the enterprise to not only support these devices but to adjust the way they do business.
Social technologies are changing the way we interact, communicate and share information – equally generating vast amounts of data and impacting business as they try to unlock the full potential social has to offer.
Cloud technologies bring new scale and efficiency to service delivery and enable more agile ways of doing business and drive business model innovation. For companies, It also brings information and applications to people at the right time and place.
All of these trends are fueling an explosion of data. Not only do enterprises need to store, manage and secure this data, they also need to derive meaningful insight from these vast amounts of data. Data is the basis of significant opportunity and a source of competitive advantage for all organizations. Data is a new economic asset, the next natural resource.
These trends are spawning new workloads, business processes and technology deployments that are putting unprecedented demands on our IT environments.

IBM Cloud Security & Compliance
Comprehensive security and compliance to empower cloud transformation
Technology is very close to architecture as a concept, but your approach must change too and we bring expertise in new methods – garage method (agile, lean, etc),app innovation, and migration services which put right workload on the right cloud. You can tee that up here.
Point 1 is positioned to help introduce IBM’s “One” Architecture
Point 2 can be either about matching to the right cloud model or destination – as many clients still are investing and have significant investment “equity” in their on-premise data center, software, and application
Point 3 is about how enterprises focus both inward and your clouds and apps which can be 1000s of 3rd party
You're trying to innovate with new technologies and data to create new insights, apps and experience that help you grow and compete.
Conventional wisdom says move it all to public cloud, but reality is your business has unique needs. Problem is you have unique considerations and requirements --- latency, security, regulations, data sovereignty, lock-in + ROI, migration expense, changing requirements
You have to balance and optimize your existing investments in technology, people, etc, and one cloud model isn't going to do that for you.
You need an agile, future proof approach to architecture that address the unique needs of your business....
How you get there starts with having insight into all your data, no matter where it lives, and the ability to govern and exploit that data.
Being able to fit the right workloads on the right delivery model according needs.
A cloud native approach using open technologies, containers, microservices to iterate quickly and lift and shift as needs dictate. Develop on A, deploy on B. etc
Choice of AI, Blockchain, to create intelligent apps.
Multi-vendor integration to quickly connect all your data and apps - including SaaS (Salesforce, SAP, etc). Orchestration across vendors to enable hybrid services.
Brokerage and service management that give you visibility and a single poing of control across it all
Prescriptive approach - expertise and methods for building cloud native, and migration services that understand how to move complex apps to the right cloud, plus ability to manage it all.
We recognize that not every organization is ready to move everything they have to a public cloud environment, and there are lots of reasons they are not able to do that. Perhaps it’s data security policies, whether their own or regulatory, perhaps they have a large investment in infrastructure or software licenses that they have not even come close to depreciating fully, or their WAN bandwidth is not high enough to support moving intensive workloads to the Cloud. We just need to be careful that we have painted a bold vision for our clients and shown them that we can help them get where they need to go.
One IBM Cloud – a range of deployment options – from Private to Public and Dedicated.
Dedicated is software definable isolation on the public cloud environment.
Private – think of it as a containerized runtime environment you can deploy into on premises, and it is purposely built to do that for much of IBM’s middleware, data and analytics portfolio. There’s absolutely a place for that. You have to be careful just deploying middleware in a container and thinking you are done “cloudifying” your business though, because that doesn’t really take advantage of the resiliency, elastic scalability, and other advantages of going cloud-native in a public cloud environment – we can hurt our customers and ourselves if we stop there.
We don’t want to be the company that they outsource yesterday’s applications to – and then they want us to manage that stuff for less and less, instead of being the company taking them into the future – and as I know you know, that is the picture of IBM that our competitors are quick to paint for our clients. We need to get clients to understand – we are not here to sell them a product – we are here to sell them a way of life. Every single engagement with a client from day one has to set those expectations – moving your business to the cloud gives you set of capabilities that thousands of IBM engineers are constantly enhancing and improving, while making things increasingly simpler to build, use and manage, at an increasingly rapid pace. Don’t lock them into an implementation with a one-time deal. Moving to cloud changes their way of life – infinite horizontal scale, don’t worry about fail-over and up-time, hardware currency, all of those things…
ARCHITECTURE & TECHNOLOGY: Define or refine the overall cloud technology vision with an understanding of the desired state and relevant enterprise goals, including workload and data.
CULTURE & ORGANIZATION: Develop culture that encourages innovation, align organization with goals of the business to catalyze and accelerate innovation and execution.
SECURITY AND COMPLIANCE: Understand and establish key considerations for holistic cloud operations including cloud risk, security, and compliance.
EMERGING INNOVATION: Understand and take advantage of new and emerging technologies, get business buy-in and showcase and technically validate for viability and feasibility
SERVICE MANAEGEMENT & OPERATIONS: Define the cloud management framework, process, and practice for the operational environment.
GOVERNANCE: Define governance frameworks and catalysts for cloud acceleration.
METHODOLOGY: Focus on the agile practices of software planning, development, delivery, and operations.

Speaker notes:
ODF Energía is a fast-growing startup that helps consumers and businesses reduce their energy costs in Spain’s newly deregulated energy market. After receiving its license in 2011 to trade energy in Spain, the company experienced rapid growth. “We have grown fast every year, every year, very fast. It’s most rewarding, but also it’s a problem,” says Sergio Palmero, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of ODF Energía.
Solution components:
Habber Tec Internacional S.L.
IBM Business Process Manager on Cloud
Coping with rapid change and growth
Palmero needed to find a technology platform that he could use to cope with constantly changing energy reg- ulations. Because the deregulated energy market in Spain is so new, it is subject to numerous rules—from the government, from energy providers, from industry organizations. To stay competitive, the company needed to respond to these changes quickly.
In addition, Palmero needed to support his company’s rapid growth. Using a disparate set of applications to run his business was causing issues. “We were using these sepa- rate islands of software to run our business activities. People were creating business processes with different tools,” says Palmero. “And when our business started to grow, we needed more and more people just to support the software. It wasn’t sustainable.”
Scaling quickly with the cloud
Palmero realized that cloud-based applications would provide the flexibility and scalability he needed to keep up with constant growth and change. Using an IBM Business Process Manager on Cloud solution, ODF Energía created an integration layer in the cloud to consolidate and automate all of its business pro- cesses. IBM Premier Business Partner Habber Tec Internacional S.L. helped the company design the architecture of the cloud solution, working in collaboration with ODF Energía line of business executives. Habber Tec also helped implement the Business Process Manager on Cloud platform.
With cloud-based business process management (BPM) software, Palmero doesn’t have to worry about constantly adding to his IT infrastructure. “It’s a problem to have to think about provisioning new infra- structure every time you need more resources,” he says. “We don’t want to have a lot of IT people.” In fact, Palmero moved his whole IT environ- ment to the cloud. “We decided to move our entire infrastructure to the cloud because of our explosive growth, growing from USD 4 million to USD 14 million to USD 24 million over the past few years,” he says.
Increasing business agility
By integrating and automating its processes with the Business Process Manager on Cloud solution, ODF Energía can serve customers more quickly. “We have reduced the number of people that are assigned to contract management, but also reduced the time between when a customer signs the contract to the time we provide the energy,” says Palmero. The BPM software also helps ODF Energía stay on top of constantly changing regulations. “In the last four years, the regulators have changed the rules every month. So each time the regulator changes the rules, we have to change our processes to comply,” says Palmero. “With the BPM, we can respond quickly.
Even if we decided to work with another form of energy, we could make that happen very fast. And that’s key to being able to compete in this marketplace.

Business challenge story
Investing wisely
With a multitude of factors to consider and many options available, deciding how and where to invest your money can quickly become complex and inefficient. Nobody wants to lose their hard-earned cash getting caught out by a bad investment decision, so doing your research and choosing the right assets to match your constraints is essential, but this can often be difficult and time-consuming.
Dr. Hillel Raz, Chief Scientist at fixed-income algo-advisory services provider BondIT, elaborates: “The fixed-income market encompasses millions of assets worldwide, each of which has numerous parameters, some of which change constantly. To further complicate matters, all of these assets and the variables impacting them are interconnected, creating a multi-dimensional, convoluted landscape.
Initially, BondIT relied on matrix laboratory (MATLAB), a multi-paradigm numerical computing environment and fourth-generation programming language, to support fixed-income portfolio generation. Recognizing that the solution’s performance and capabilities were limited, the company knew it could do better. To accelerate and customize the construction of fixed-income portfolios and optimize its fixed-income asset-management services, BondIT set out to find a more reliable, higher-performing optimization solver that would support real-time dynamics and better address static market constraints.
Transformation story
Creating custom portfolios at speed
BondIT evaluated several offerings before selecting IBM® ILOG® CPLEX® Optimization Studio to take its fixed-income portfolio services to the next level.
Using the ILOG CPLEX Optimization Studio software, BondIT developed a unique mixed integer framework that sets up numerous linear and nonlinear constraints for resolution by a quadratic solver. Now, the company is able to solve for risk-optimized portfolios that best fit within specified constraints. The CPLEX solution provides the necessary mathematical and mixed-integer programming capabilities, working in conjunction with the proprietary BondIT framework to optimize fixed-income portfolios.
BondIT deploys the IBM technology in the cloud, and delivers its own fixed-income solution for wealth and asset management to financial business clients through a software as a service (SaaS) delivery model.
Results story
Disrupting the fixed-income market
By deploying ILOG CPLEX Optimization Studio, BondIT equipped itself with a lightning-fast solution to support the creation of customized portfolios in seconds—leading advisory services into the machine-learning era and breaking the mold of the fixed-income market.
As well as vastly accelerating portfolio construction, BondIT’s solution significantly minimizes the risk for investors.
In addition, the solution cuts the number of broken portfolio constraints by approximately 50 percent, boosting usability and flexibility.
Together with BondIT’s expertise and the surrounding technology, ILOG CPLEX Optimization Studio plays a significant role in the success of BondIT’s solution.

Business challenge story
Birth of a revolutionary idea
When out in the field as a sales rep, facetime with clients is essential to success. But it can be hard to keep track of where you’re due to go next, who you’re going to see and to record your interactions—and that all eats into the time you spend actually making sales. As a result, many sales reps struggle to stay on top of the demands of a traditional CRM system, which threatens to hamper their productivity and leave their managers without an up-to-date view of their company’s pipeline.
What if there was a better way to handle your meetings, prepare your sales pitches, and nail your next deal, even while you’re on the move? Cue ForceManager, a revolutionary CRM app which acts as a virtual assistant for field sales reps.
Transformation Story
Harnessing the power of artificial intelligence
To create a pioneering version of its app, ForceManager joined forces with IBM to embrace artificial intelligence capabilities powered by IBM® Watson® services hosted in the IBM Cloud.
With native apps for smartphones, tablets and the Apple Watch, ForceManager is designed to keep field sales reps on track while they travel. The latest version of the ForceManager app combines the power of IBM Watson Conversation, IBM Watson Dialog, IBM Watson Text to Speech, IBM Watson Speech to Text and IBM Watson Natural Language Classifier services to allow sales reps to converse with it in natural language.
Using hands-free voice commands, sales reps can check their schedules and leads, map the route to the next meeting, get up to speed on accounts and log their customer interactions while on the move.
Results Story
Boosting productivity, slashing inefficiencies
By injecting the power of IBM Watson services into its mobile CRM app, ForceManager has been transformed into an AI personal assistant that unlocks greater productivity for field sales reps.
“Field reps like the latest version of ForceManager so much that the adoption rates have grown to a staggering 80 percent,” remarks Oscar Maciá, CEO and Co-founder, ForceManager. “Because they are using the app more, field reps have also increased their sales activity by up to 20 percent, with an 18 percent boost in overall sales driven by new AI capabilities.”
By ditching their unwieldy CRM systems, field sales reps can put their precious time to better use. Oscar Maciá continues: “Field reps can now convert some of the time spent travelling – which can be up to 30 percent of their daily schedule – into preparation for customer visits and recording interactions, they arrive at meetings better equipped, which in turns translates into more convincing sales pitches and a higher number of successful deals.”
In addition, because ForceManager can be updated in a matter of seconds, managers gain more complete, real-time visibility into the sales pipeline. Oscar Maciá notes: “One of our clients employs 4,000 sales reps, and each one of them reports approximately 20 activities per day. With ForceManager, field sales reps can now collect, access, and analyze the information in a more structured way, and managers have immediate visibility. As a result, managers don’t waste time trying to get an overview of performance – it’s at their fingertips whenever they need it.”
He concludes: “This project with IBM was a huge success, but we have only scratched the surface. We are confident that we can achieve so much more with these solutions in the future. On our ambitious roadmap, we plan to incorporate several other Watson services into ForceManager, so the sky is really the limit.”
