Halloween originated from the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain, celebrated on October 31st. The Celts believed that on this day, the boundary between the living and the dead became blurred and the spirits of the dead returned to earth. To celebrate Samhain and avoid being possessed by these spirits, the Celts would put on costumes and decorate their homes with bones and skulls. This tradition evolved into the modern Halloween customs of wearing costumes and carving jack-o-lanterns. Today, Halloween is a night of fantasy and mystery where people dress up as ghosts, skeletons and other scary figures to commemorate deceased loved ones.
