Halloween originated from the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain, where the Celts believed the souls of the dead visited Earth on the last day of October. Over time, the Christian church designated November 1st as All Saints' Day and the night before became known as Allhallows'e'en. Traditions include trick-or-treating, carving pumpkins, telling scary stories, and cooking Halloween treats. Many superstitions also arose such as avoiding black cats, the number 13, and getting under stairs due to beliefs that spirits roam on Halloween.
