Canada has a federal parliamentary democracy with a constitutional monarchy form of government. Power is divided between the central federal government and the regional provincial governments. Citizens elect representatives to the House of Commons and the party with the most seats selects the Prime Minister as the head of government. The Queen remains the official head of state represented by the Governor General, who is appointed by the Prime Minister. Citizens can vote at age 18 and have many personal freedoms similar to those in the United States.
