Technology is rapidly transforming the way we live, learn, work and interact. This paper aims to highlight and support debate around how we ‘teach digital’ in creative arts education and what potential impacts the UK digital economy could have on current and emerging digital practices and open education.
Emergent technologies such as Virtual Reality (VR) can present new challenges for teachers who are struggling to integrate evolving digital practices into the curriculum. As a result, new technologies & practices remain inaccessible and therefore reside outside the curriculum, not too dissimilar to challenges faced by those exploring open education integration at University of the Arts London (UAL).
The pace of technological change and its impact on the day-to-day practices of University staff and students is fast becoming an issue for everyone. Could the process of Digital Transformation be an opportunity for the open education movement & communities to explore new models of mainstream integration?
Re-thinking E-Learning Research introduces a number of research frameworks and methodologies relevant to e-learning. The book outlines methods for the analysis of content, narrative, genre, discourse, hermeneutic-phenomenological investigation, and critical and historical inquiry. It provides examples of pairings of method and subject matter that include narrative research into the adaptation of blogs in a classroom setting

The presentation will present KTP complex system of innovation and business support that creatively adapted many recognized tools and methodologies, from special economic zone which was the first area of our activity, via technology park and incubation to living lab and other user-driven innovation concepts. The background is drawn by the evolution of regional innovation policy strategies and socioeconomic changes in Poland as Malopolska (Krakow) region.

Google Trends and other IT fever charts rate Data
Science among the most rapidly emerging and promising fields that expand around computer science. Although Data Science draws on content from established fields like artificial intelligence, statistics, databases, visualization and many more, industry is demanding for trained data scientists that no one seems able to deliver. This is due to the pace at which the field has expanded and the corresponding lack of curricula; the
unique skill set, which is inherently multi-disciplinary; and the translation work (from the US web economy to other ecosystems) necessary to realize the recognized world-wide potential of applying analytics to all sorts of data.
In this contribution we draw from our experiences in establishing an inter-disciplinary Data Science lab in order to highlight the challenges and potential remedies for Data Science
in Europe. We discuss our role as academia in the light of the potential societal/economic impact as well as the challenges in organizational leadership tied to such inter-disciplinary work.

Neven Vrček: Internship programme and students’ entrepreneurship as a hub be...CUBCCE Conference
University of Zagreb, Faculty of Organization (FOI) and Informatics launched an internship programme for students. The programme was very positively accepted by the business community. In short time we signed agreement with more than 350 companies indicating their willingness to accept students for internships. The experiences are very positive. One third of students remain employed by the companies after finishing internship. Additional befit of the programme is closer relationship with involved companies and exploration of new ways of cooperation on various projects. Recently Faculty launched startup@foi.hr programme. The idea is that all costs related to establishment and first year of operations, including location, is funded by Faculty. This form of pre-incubation attracted great attention across student community. It is interesting to notice that some of the companies accepted to cosponsor this programme in order to be close to innovative ideas. Such activities made FOI a strong regional hub for IT industry and meeting point for various projects.

Many library leaders will find themselves planning a remodel of library space. Whether repurposing for a new use or just improving function and aesthetics, a limited budget can be eaten up by existing building issues: HVAC problems, asbestos abatement, interruption of systems, or simple staging logistics. Experts will share with attendees what to watch for, what questions to ask, and how to plan to anticipate these considerations so that project goals are met.

Neuro-symbolic is not enough, we need neuro-*semantic*Frank van Harmelen
Neuro-symbolic (NeSy) AI is on the rise. However, simply machine learning on just any symbolic structure is not sufficient to really harvest the gains of NeSy. These will only be gained when the symbolic structures have an actual semantics. I give an operational definition of semantics as “predictable inference”.
All of this illustrated with link prediction over knowledge graphs, but the argument is general.

Epistemic Interaction - tuning interfaces to provide information for AI supportAlan Dix
Paper presented at SYNERGY workshop at AVI 2024, Genoa, Italy. 3rd June 2024
https://alandix.com/academic/papers/synergy2024-epistemic/
As machine learning integrates deeper into human-computer interactions, the concept of epistemic interaction emerges, aiming to refine these interactions to enhance system adaptability. This approach encourages minor, intentional adjustments in user behaviour to enrich the data available for system learning. This paper introduces epistemic interaction within the context of human-system communication, illustrating how deliberate interaction design can improve system understanding and adaptation. Through concrete examples, we demonstrate the potential of epistemic interaction to significantly advance human-computer interaction by leveraging intuitive human communication strategies to inform system design and functionality, offering a novel pathway for enriching user-system engagements.

So, brainiest square kilometer of Europe, why? It’s not just an empty marketing statement. Can we support this with facts. Yes we can:A bit more than 50% of all patent applications in the Netherlands come from this one square kilometer.Together they account for 50% of private R&D expenditures in the Netherlands.Belonging to the 17% largest science parks according to IASP (nr of employees)And appointed by the Ministry of economic affairs as campus of national significanceGreat, all these facts and recognition, but the competition in the international networked economy is enormous. The challenge is always how to keep our position or even better how to improve it.
February this year we organized the first edition of #swHighTech. Normally the Campus is abandoned on Friday evenings, but not this Friday. This Friday evening this auditorium was filled with people and energy. 150 people were present that evening. And they all shared the ambition to launch a company over the weekend. And they did. In one weekend 12 companies were launched. The nights were short though. This picture is taken at 4 in the morning.Next edition is planned for October during DDW. Then we’re going to blend design and technology, designers and techies.
And in today’s economy successful innovation is not something that you can do all by yourself. You have to cooperate with others. It’s about smart connections. Open Innovation is the sure-fire route to success and High Tech Campus Eindhoven is perfectly equipped to fully facilitate it.
