Class Requirements
This class requires that students purchase the book Adobe Premiere Pro CC: Classroom In a Book by Adobe Creative Team (Official training workbook from Adobe Systems) prior to the next class. BE SURE YOU HAVE THE BOOK AND HAVE INSTALLED THE VIDEO FILES BEFORE YOU START UNIT 3.
Once you have your book, transfer (download) the video files. If you buy the regular version of the book it will include a DVD containing the video files you will need for the course. If you purchase the Kindle (or other online) version, it will include a link to download the video files.
NOTE: If you are downloading the video asset files rather than transferring them from the DvD included with the paperback version of the book, you will need to register your book online, go to the Registered Products tab, click on Access Bonus Content, and then download all the files. The current version has a download link for Lesson Files as well as sixteen (16) Assets file links - or possibly more, since they seem to keep adding assets files! You need to download all of these and then organize them on your hard drive as indicated on the Peachpit Downloads Page! (Yes, it's probably a lot simpler if you buy the book and just copy everything from the DvD disc -- the files on the DvD are already organized, so if transferring from the DvD there is no additional file organization step needed.)
You should also take this week to buy and install the Adobe Premiere Pro Software if you have not already done so. You may want to go ahead and install and open the program in order to familiarize yourself with the interface. More information can be found on the syllabus.
Next week’s class will introduce the editing basics of the software. Take this week to download and install the software and copy (/download) the media files so that your computer is already prepared when you begin Unit 3 next week!
Editing Tools
The process of editing has changed drastically since the beginning of filmmaking. The example films discussed in Unit 1 were edited using quite a different system than we use today. Before digital filmmaking was possible, all movies were shot on film. The film was literally cut into pieces and taped back together. So at one time it was very important to be sure of an edit before it was made. Each individual edit was a process and therefore a specific choice.
With the advent of digital editing platforms, or Non Linear Editing Systems (NLE), it is now much easier for editors to make an endless amount of changes to a film and always be able to revert back to the original clips. It is very easy to take for granted the incredible ability that non linear editing offers filmmakers today. But it is important to understand the changes that have occurred within the editing industry in order to more accurately analyze films from a variety of time periods.

You need to download all of these and then organize them on your hard drive as indicated on the Peachpit Downloads Page! (Yes, it's probably a lot simpler if you buy the book and just copy everything from the DvD disc -- the files on the DvD are already organized, so if transferring from the DvD there is no additional file organization step needed.)
You should also take this week to buy and install the Adobe Premiere Pro Software if you have not already done so. You may want to go ahead and install and open the program in order to familiarize yourself with the interface. More information can be found on the syllabus.
Next week’s class will introduce the editing basics of the software. Take this week to download and install the software and copy (/download) the media files so that your computer is already prepared when you begin Unit 3 next week!
Editing Tools
The process of editing has changed drastically since the beginning of filmmaking. The example films discussed in Unit 1 were edited using quite a different system than we use today. Before digital filmmaking was possible, all movies were shot on film. The film was literally cut into pieces and taped back together. So at one time it was very important to be sure of an edit before it was made. Each individual edit was a process and therefore a specific choice.
With the advent of digital editing platforms, or Non Linear Editing Systems (NLE), it is now much easier for editors to make an endless amount of changes to a film and always be able to revert back to the original clips. It is very easy to take for granted the incredible ability that non linear editing offers filmmakers today. But it is important to understand the changes that have occurred within the editing industry in order to more accurately analyze films from a variety of time periods.

Presentation 2
By taking part in multiple workshops, the author was able to greatly improve their production skills over the course of the project. Initially, they did not know how to set up cameras or do complex editing. However, through workshops they learned camera operation, editing software like Premiere, and how to plan shots and sequences. They gained experience filming with professional cameras and editing dialogue scenes. By the end of the project, the author was able to independently film, edit, and add effects to sequences. They applied these new skills to create several video sequences over the course of the workshops and project.

Camera Shots and Digital Poetry
- 1. Camera ShotsDigital I AM Poetry Video Productions Mrs. McMath
- 2. Camera shots The Camera Shots you shoot in your videos can convey the mood and meaning of what you are trying to convey in your video. Terminology can change between video production environment. Following are examples we will use for this class. The subject in these shots is the boy.
- 3. Extreme wide shot The view is so far from the subject that he isn't even visible. Often used as an establishing shot.
- 4. Very wide shot The subject is visible (barely), but the emphasis is still on placing him in his environment.
- 5. Wide shot The subject takes up the full frame, or at least as much as comfortably possible.
- 6. mid shot Shows some part of the subject in more detail while still giving an impression of the whole subject.
- 7. Medium close up Half way between a Mid Shot and a Close Up.
- 8. Close up A certain feature or part of the subject takes up the whole frame.
- 9. Extreme close up The Extreme Close Up gets right in and shows extreme detail.
- 10. Cut in Shows some (other) part of the subject in detail.
- 11. cutaway A shot of something other than the subject.
- 12. Two-shot A shot of two people, framed similarly to a mid shot.
- 13. Over the shoulder Looking from behind a person at the subject.
- 14. Noddy shot Usually refers to a shot of the interviewer listening and reacting to the subject.
- 15. Point of view Shows a view from the subject's perspective.
- 16. Weather shot The subject is the weather. Can be used for other purposes, e.g. background for graphics.
- 17. Digital poetry-I am For our first Video Production we will be creating digital poetry. Step 1: Create your I AM poem. Use this web site as a guide. http://ettcweb.lr.k12.nj.us/forms/iampoem.htm Step 2: Copy and Paste your I AM poem into Microsoft Word. This will be your script for your video. Practice reading your poem.
- 18. Digital poetry-I AM Step 3: In Microsoft Word, you will be printing a copy on 8 ½ x 14 paper. You must use a different font than the standard font, adjust the font size to fit the paper size, and change the color of your font. Your name, course name, and period must be located below the last stanza of your poem. DO NOT print until I tell you too.
- 19. Digital poetry-I am Step 4: Working with a partner, you will film a different EXTREME CLOSE UP shot for each line of your poem. Each shot must be a part of you and one line of your poem, narrated. The I AM lines of your poems must be all the same shot of your face. Step 5: Upload your shots to iMovie and edit them in the order of your I AM poem. Step 6: Please include a title slide with your Name, Course Name, and Period.
- 20. Digital poetry-I am Include transitions in your video. Adjust the Video Effects in your video. Please make the Video Effect the same for each clip, EXCEPT very I AM line in your poem must have the same Video Effect of “Normal”.
