This document summarizes an interactive software prototype called ICE (Interactive Calligraphy Exploration) that was created to explore Arabic calligraphy computationally. ICE represents calligraphy symbols abstractly and uses "regulators" to capture and manipulate the symmetry of calligraphy compositions. The user interface allows users to create calligraphy symbols, apply symmetry regulators, and transform both symbols and regulators to explore new calligraphy designs in novel ways not previously possible. The goal is to computationally support the iterative process of designing symmetrical calligraphy compositions.
