1. Introduction
• Although most of the world's Manipuri live in northeastern India, a
large group also reside in neighboring Bangladesh. Also known as the
Meithei, the Manipuri are of Mongolian descent and speak a
language called Meithei.
• Sylhet is famous for its scenic tea plantations and lush green tropical
forests. In sharp contrast to the flat plains of most of Bangladesh,
Sylhet is characterized by forested, slopey hills. Most Manipuri live in
the district of Sylhet in northeastern Bangladesh. This district borders
the Indian state of Meghalaya.
2. • The colorful kaleidoscope of Manipur society and their exquisite
culture has been a topic that attracted the desire in the minds of
travelers and nature lovers all across the world.
• Manipur, known as The Land of Jewels as it is rightly called, boasts of
the incredibly beautiful landscape that has been generously
decorated with rolling slopes of hills, the emerald green valleys, thick
green forests, clear blue skies, glittering lakes, the stunning flora and
fauna and many more that lies within the people of Manipur and
their surroundings, together make it the most beautiful land that has
to be explored once in a lifetime. Exploring Manipur and knowing
more about their culture can be a very interesting activity in Manipur.
3. "Community-based tourism is a sort of tourism in which local
communities invite tourists into their communities, providing them
with a glimpse of their culture and daily life. It is a sort of sustainable
tourism that enables visitors to interact closely with the host
community. (Jong, 2019)
4. • Tourists can experience the diversity and customs of another country and
interact with the local populace. In their day-to-day activities, the locals
frequently reflect on their means of subsistence, cuisine, handiwork,
cultural legacy, and other topics that reveal their expertise. These kinds of
activities lay the groundwork for expanding awareness and acquiring
knowledge about another culture's beliefs and social conventions.
• Even though Community tourism is welcomed and hosted by the area
community's people, they are occasionally exploited by foreigners with
unpleasant statements and discriminatory attitudes. Even though their
cultural phenomenon is largely acknowledged by outsiders, it is sometimes
observed that locals fail to retain their own culture and make an excessive
effort to appease foreigners. The repercussions of community-based
tourism have both positive and negative consequences. Sociologists and
anthropologists have been working on this sector for a very long time to
benefit both the people and the locals without disturbing either side.
5. Significance of the study
• The concept of community-based tourism is new in Bangladesh.
Though this concept is familiar in the Chittagong hill tracts, but in
Sylhet region, especially in the Manipuri’s it is almost new. This paper
aims to suggest the ways to improve and promote community-based
tourism and the impact of the Manipuri people. Community-based
tourism or CBT can improve people’s life in a new way and can be a
good way for improving.
