Camels are very important animals for people living in deserts, having been domesticated over 2,000 years ago to carry cargo, provide transportation, milk, meat, wool, and survive for weeks without drinking water by storing fat in their humps. Most camels live in the Gobi desert, where they are well-adapted to harsh desert conditions and are essentially "ships of the desert" for the people who rely on them.
