The Port of Seattle Chapter of NMA is offering a college course in Human/Labor Relations through a partnership with Highline College. The course will be held on Thursdays from October 1 to December 17, 2015 from 11:30 am to 1:00 pm at a Port location. It is a blended course that includes weekly classroom and online sessions. The course focuses on global strategies and management approaches related to labor and diversity issues. It provides 5 college credits that can be applied to degrees at Highline College or transferred elsewhere. Interested NMA members must apply by September 21.

The revised state of play for micro-credentials in Australasia
In 2019 ACODE ran a survey to understand where Australasian HE Institutions were up-to in relation to establishing micro-credentials. At that point less than a quarter had even a policy in place. Since then the effort towards micro- credentialing has increased. The 2020 ACODE survey reveals that, if not already well-underway, institutions are developing or seriously considering micro- credentialing strategies. A number of interesting trends emerged that this presentation will explore, such as, several universities are working on ways to
integrate existing short course systems into award course systems. Others are planning to offer micro-credentials to businesses and government in a commercial capacity. It was noted that professional practice degrees are a new space being explored to tap into industry partnerships. There is also consideration of co-delivery with VET providers. In all this, many indicated that they needed to rethink their operating structures to best service micro-credentials in their various permutations.

OERs: A PG Cert Perspective

In 2019 ACODE ran a survey to understand where Australasian HE Institutions were up-to in relation to establishing micro-credentials. At that point less than a quarter had even a policy in place. Since then the effort towards micro- credentialing has increased. The 2020 ACODE survey reveals that, if not already well-underway, institutions are developing or seriously considering micro- credentialing strategies. A number of interesting trends emerged that this presentation will explore, such as, several universities are working on ways to
integrate existing short course systems into award course systems. Others are planning to offer micro-credentials to businesses and government in a commercial capacity. It was noted that professional practice degrees are a new space being explored to tap into industry partnerships. There is also consideration of co-delivery with VET providers. In all this, many indicated that they needed to rethink their operating structures to best service micro-credentials in their various permutations.

ENG 011 This course is designed to support students in the development of skills necessary for success in ENG 111 by complementing, supporting, and reinforcing ENG 111 Student Learning Outcomes. Emphasis is placed on developing a growth mindset, expanding skills for use in active reading and writing processes, recognizing organizational relationships within texts from a variety of genres and formats, and employing appropriate technology when reading and composing texts. CONTINUINGEDUCATION The Port of Seattle Chapter of NMA is pleased to continue our collaborative partnership with Highline College (HC) and Port of Seattle Human Resources and Development (HR&D) by offering a college course in HUMAN/LABOR RELATIONS. This course combines lecture, small group collaborative work sessions, and seminar. The course is blended in design (classroom and online) and enrollment has two requirements: Attend 1.5 hours of weekly classroom sessions at a Port location (during an extended lunch hour with supervisor’s permission). Participate in 2.75 hours weekly online discussion forums as well as completing readings or other written assignments between class sessions (an average of 10 hours weekly). Students will need regular access to the internet with a reliable connection.
