This document provides a template for business cases for investments over $50k. It outlines sections that must be completed including an executive summary describing the business challenge and opportunity, proposed investment need, key assumptions, impact of not proceeding, cost estimates, and estimated benefits. Details on estimated costs, benefits and savings should be provided in an accompanying business case workbook. The template requires sponsorship and approval from the appropriate members.

This template is intended to summarize the business value of a given investment for presentation purposes.
Details surrounding the business case are optionally included in the business case workbook.
All sections of this template are required for investments exceeding US$50k. Only the Executive Summary is required for investments under US$50K.
Executive summary Summarize the business challenge or opportunity. Why is change required? What is the impact on the business?
Target Start and Target End Enter the planned date that the effort will begin and conclude. This information is provided through the ROM template.
Sponsoring location Select with an “X” or specify country.
Proposed investment need Describe what is needed to resolve the business challenge. Include whether the investment will be implemented at the global, Area, Sub-
Area or country.
Key assumptions/dependencies Describe any conclusions which have been made so far and/or reliance on outside factors of the business change. These include, but are not limited to, financial, technological, operational, timing,
limited to, financial, technological, operational, timing, regulatory requirements, service line agendas, other tools/processes, etc.
Application redundancy implications Include any relation to or elimination of other applications.
Retired investments Enter the number of existing investments that will retire if this new investment is approved and implemented; also enter the associated 3-year
cost savings and the cost to retire those applications.
Business drivers Describe the business’ reason for implementing this change. Explain using the following drivers:

Impact of not proceeding and timing constraints Describe why this investment should be approved and the risks of not proceeding. Include outside factors forcing timing decisions

Cost estimate Include the expected costs, both implement and operating, that this investment may incur (these will not be exact at this point). Estimates
are to be developed through the BCE template.
Estimated benefits Describe the expected benefits of this investment, referencing payback period if applicable. Detail of estimated benefits, including
applications to be retired, are to be developed through the BCE template.
