What is Bullying?

Bullying is comprised of behaviors such as teasing,
    taunting, threatening, hitting and stealing, or
 intentionally leaving someone out by one or more
                people against a victim
The Problem With Bullying
 1 out of every 7 students are either bullied or
 initiate bullying

 While physical assault seems to decrease with
 age, the verbal abuse remains constant

 Students also don’t know what to do when they
 see bullying

 Usually the ones that are bullying have a need to
 feel powerful or in control
Effects of
 Bullying
  *People Who Are Bullied*
- Serious depression, along with
suicide
- Changes in sleeping and eating
patterns
- Decreased academic involvement
 - Students may even drop out of
school because of fear
- Can cause retaliation, like the
school shootings in Littleton,
Colorado (Columbine High School)
Effects of Bullying
           People Who Bully
Kids who bully are more likely to abuse alcohol
or drugs as adults

Get into fights, vandelize property

Drop out of high school

Abuse partners, family members or children

Have a criminal record as an adult
What to do if You See
Someone Being Bullied
Stand up for the victim

Offer to help them

Tell an adult

Stop rumors that are going around

Don’t join in on the bullying
Solutions to Bullying
Learn how to recognize bullying, educate
yourself even more

Educate others, help others understand that
bullying is not okay

Stop bullying when you see it

Help the bully understand that their behavior is
unacceptable and that they can endanger others
