Cyberstates 2016: The Definitive State-by-State Analysis of the U.S. Tech Industry published by the Computing Technology Industry Association (CompTIA).
CompTIA projects global industry growth of 4.1 percent in 2017. The IT Industry Outlook 2017 identifies 12 trends – in technology, workforce and the IT channel – likely to impact the industry this year.
CompTIA - IT Security Sales Practices in the Channel CompTIA
This presentation provides a review of how IT firms approach the sale of IT security products and services. It details the types of security services they are offering, their outlook on security growth prospects and their involvement in areas such as security-as-a-service or managed security services.
In CompTIA's research on the state of IT skills gap, 68% of IT firms report having a "very challenging" time finding new staff. They are hiring, with 33% saying they are understaffed and another 42% saying they are fully staffed but want to hire more in order to expand. How are today's IT skills matching up to industry's workforce needs?
Given the breadth and pace of innovation, all signs point to a widening skills gap. This will put further pressure on organizations of all sizes to rethink their workforce strategies. While the notion of a skills gap is a seemingly straightforward concept, below the surface, there are many nuances to the story. This CompTIA research report explores these issues, setting the stage for approaches to tackling the IT skills gap.

CompTIA’s new Trends in Cloud Computing study shows that while well over 90 percent of companies still claim to use some form of cloud computing, the pace of progress appears to have slowed. In some cases, it even appears to have taken a step backwards. What accounts for this phenomenon? Why does it seem like attitudes towards cloud have cooled, even though cloud continues to be a primary factor in IT growth? Download this study today and learn more about the state of the cloud.

The ICT industry is in the midst of a shift to a new technology platform for growth and innovation, a shift that occurs once every 20-25 years. IDC terms this the '3rd Platform' - built on mobile devices and apps, cloud services, mobile broadband networks, big data analytics, and social technologies.
By 2020, when the ICT industry reaches USD 5 trillion - USD 1.7 trillion larger than it is today - at least 80% of the industry's growth, and organisations' highest-value leverage of IT, will be driven by these 3rd Platform technologies. In addition, there'll be an explosion of new solutions built on the new platform and rapidly expanding consumption of 3rd Platform technologies in emerging markets.
Today, 3rd Platform technologies and the services around them generate only about 20% of all IT spending, but they are growing, collectively, at about 18% per year - six times the rate of the rest of the IT industry. As we look toward 2020, it's easy to see that these technologies will inevitably become the 80% of all IT spending.

2022 vs 2023: What's the Data Telling Us About What's Going on in the Tech In...SocialHRCamp
Speaker:
Stephanie Hollingshead (https://www.linkedin.com/in/stephaniehollingshead/
This session was presented at SocialHRCamp Montreal 2023 on October 26, 2023.
Each September Tech and People Network releases its highly anticipated Canadian Tech Industry Salary and Policy and Practices Survey which encompassses close to 30,000 salary data points from it's 200+ member companies across Canada. In the past 18months the tech industry experienced the extreme swing of the "great resignation" and the (often expensive) struggle to retain their talent directly into a cooling period, with many companies forced to take cost cutting measures. All of this came on top of the resurgence of return to office decisions and the shifting priorities of our workforce.
Stephanie Hollingshead, CEO of Tech and People Network will kick off Montreal's SocialHRCamp by sharing the data on the top insights gleaned from their 2023 data.

Influencing Higher Education to Create the Future DevOps Workforce
Charles Betz, Coordinator, Minnesota State Digital Curricula Initiative
"Where will we find the talent?"
The feedback loops are slow for higher education, and institutions are only now beginning to respond to the opportunities of DevOps. How can we accelerate this process?
This fast-paced talk will cover both macro- and micro-scale efforts. Over the summer, 11 faculty from Minnesota teaching colleges worked with industry thought leaders to draft a report, “Digital Curricula: Toward next-generation IT education.” The report (including a survey on current digital workforce) compiled hundreds of learning objectives from leading digital and DevOps practices, for instructors and commercial trainers around the world to use in course development.
This report (free and sponsored by the Advance-IT Center of Excellence in the Minnesota State University System) is being distributed this October to hundreds of computing and IT faculty across the 6th-largest education system in the U.S. and will be presented here for the first time to an industry audience.
As a worked example at the course level, the University of St. Thomas offers a survey course on IT delivery, using a “flipped model” with recorded lectures and experiential labs. An open source, 8-node, software-defined virtual cluster based on open technologies is used to illustrate continuous delivery, infrastructure automation, and Agile concepts for the course’s 12 open source lab sessions, as well as collaborative topics such as product management, work management, and operations. Come hear discussion of the motivations, teaching philosophy, technical practices, and results of this pioneering course.

Securing your Kubernetes cluster_ a step-by-step guide to success !KatiaHIMEUR1
Today, after several years of existence, an extremely active community and an ultra-dynamic ecosystem, Kubernetes has established itself as the de facto standard in container orchestration. Thanks to a wide range of managed services, it has never been so easy to set up a ready-to-use Kubernetes cluster.
However, this ease of use means that the subject of security in Kubernetes is often left for later, or even neglected. This exposes companies to significant risks.
In this talk, I'll show you step-by-step how to secure your Kubernetes cluster for greater peace of mind and reliability.
Elevating Tactical DDD Patterns Through Object CalisthenicsDorra BARTAGUIZ
After immersing yourself in the blue book and its red counterpart, attending DDD-focused conferences, and applying tactical patterns, you're left with a crucial question: How do I ensure my design is effective? Tactical patterns within Domain-Driven Design (DDD) serve as guiding principles for creating clear and manageable domain models. However, achieving success with these patterns requires additional guidance. Interestingly, we've observed that a set of constraints initially designed for training purposes remarkably aligns with effective pattern implementation, offering a more ‘mechanical’ approach. Let's explore together how Object Calisthenics can elevate the design of your tactical DDD patterns, offering concrete help for those venturing into DDD for the first time!
Neuro-symbolic is not enough, we need neuro-*semantic*Frank van Harmelen
Neuro-symbolic (NeSy) AI is on the rise. However, simply machine learning on just any symbolic structure is not sufficient to really harvest the gains of NeSy. These will only be gained when the symbolic structures have an actual semantics. I give an operational definition of semantics as “predictable inference”.
All of this illustrated with link prediction over knowledge graphs, but the argument is general.
