2. Extended Play
Extended Plays otherwise known as EPs are short studio
albums usually between 2-5 songs, under or around 30
minutes in length. Some EPs are released as prequels
for an artists upcoming album to build awareness and
excitement.
Billy Idol “Cage” is considered an EP as it is a total of 4
songs and lasts under 30 minutes.
3. Long Play
Long Plays otherwise known as LPs can have 20 plus
songs on each release. Originally LPs required 2 vinyl
per release. LPs are put together to show that an artist
is capable of putting together a large project.
Prince and the Revolution consists of a total of 20
songs. Also including 3 vinyls with songs on each side
of each vinyl for over an hour worth of music.
4. Store Clerk
Dylan
• Do you offer consignment to indie
artists?- “We have in the past however it
did not do well.”
• How often do marketing reps visit from
record labels?- “Reps visit every so often,
not every year. However the store owner
does travel to conventions every couple
of years and we do have a business
cards from a few labels such as
Universal.”
5. Events
Record Store Day
Dylan stated “ We actually have Record Store Day
coming up. It is the only event we really participate in on
a regular basis as we do participate each year which
would include Record Store Day Black Friday.”
7. Swag
DYLAN SHOWED SOME COOL ITEMS INCLUDING A
CUSTOM BUDGET MUSIC CLOCK THAT WAS MADE BY A
REGULAR. DYLAN STATED “WE ARE SUPPOSE TO GET
SOME COOL NEW BUDGET MUSIC STICKERS IN TO GO
ALONG WITH OUR T-SHIRTS, HATS AND HOODIES.”
8. No current promo pieces to date.
Budget Music does have plenty of past promotional pieces
displayed around the store.

9. After speaking with Dylan, I would use Budget Music for Indie album
releases. Even though Budget Music does not get reps visiting often, they
still have good connections to reach out to with the owner still going to
conventions. Budget would also be a good place for “in-store” events but
outside due to the lack of space indoors attracting all the major music
lovers in the area. I would leave samplers for marketing reps and visitors
of Budget Music. Unless business were to pick up enough for consignment
to work out, I would not consign the album to this store.
