A brushed DC motor works by using an electric current run through an armature to cause the rotor to spin 180 degrees, after which the brushes flip the polarity of the electromagnet in the stator to allow the rotor to continue spinning a full 360 degrees by reversing the magnetic field each half revolution through the use of the brushes making contact with the stator.
