Two-thirds of Brunei's population is Malay, with Chinese, Indian, and indigenous groups as minorities. Malay is the official language, though English is also used, and Islam is the dominant religion. The population is concentrated in urban areas like the capital Bandar Seri Begawan. Medical services and education, including the University of Brunei Darussalam, are well developed and funded by oil revenues. Education is compulsory from ages 5 to 16 and provided free in Malay, English, or Chinese.
