The Communication Model?
of
Jose Radin L. Garduque
EVOLUTION:
Why & how I came into this?
EVOLUTION:
2010
During the first automated
elections in the Philippines,
the Cyberspace started to
become a popular medium for
electoral campaigns...
EVOLUTION:
2010
...as well as, for common
Filipinos to express their
opinions, feelings or attitudes
towards a certain political
candidate, particularly the...
EVOLUTION:
2010
PRESIDENTIABLES!
EVOLUTION:
2010
These aspirants for the highest
executive position in our
country created their own
webpage wherein they can
better present themselves to
EVOLUTION:
2010
the masses. A popular &
effective mass medium during
that time was Facebook!
EVOLUTION:
2010
Each presidentiable has his/her
own Facebook page! Through
it, the masses were able to
express themselves by liking
or by giving comments.
EVOLUTION:
2010
I, as a neophyte to that
interesting medium of
communication, gave my
brave, careless comment to a
presidential candidate...
EVOLUTION:
2010
by giving a comment implying
that I don’t like someone like a
“Warcraft Abomination” to
rule our country.
EVOLUTION:
2010
To my surprise, someone
replied that the one I’m
targeting with that comment
might slaughter me!
EVOLUTION:
2010
Such words really struck me.
Although the netizen who
made that comment didn’t
mention my name, it’s obvious
that it was meant for me bcoz
EVOLUTION:
2010
his/her comment followed after
my comment! (wasn’t able to
screenshot)
EVOLUTION:
2010
My Warcraft comment was not
accompanied by any picture.
It’s pure text. And also, I
didn’t mention the name of
presidentiable Noy2x Aquino.
EVOLUTION:
2010
For me, the message I made
was indirect. And so, the
feedback to my message was
also indirect!
EVOLUTION:
I have 4 more examples...
EXAMPLE #1
EXAMPLE #1:
2011
I was employed in Capiz State
University as a teacher. In one
of my classes, I commented
something about a politician
who endorsed a laundry soap.
EXAMPLE #1:
2011
I told my students that it was
ridiculous for a politician to
become a product endorser.
EXAMPLE #1:
2011
The following day, as I was
walking along the corridor, a
group of students were talking
and didn’t greet me. I overheard
one of them saying...
EXAMPLE #1:
2011
“Dapat guid man labhan jang
mantsa (That stain should be
washed away).”
EXAMPLE #1:
2011
With that, I remembered my
“laundry soap” comment &
couldn’t help to relate that to
it. It was again told indirectly!!
EXAMPLE #2
EXAMPLE #2:
2012
I created this amateur
painting...
EXAMPLE #2:
2012
This masterpiece has no name,
but it illustrates a person (me)
who tried to sail from one
place/political party to
another.
EXAMPLE #2:
2012
To interpret, the blue land with
yellow pyramid & a sphinx
represents Capiz & the Liberal
Party. (Note: Capiz is the birthplace & stronghold
of the Founder of LP in the Philippines)
EXAMPLE #2:
2012
The land at the opposite
direction represents a rival
political party and my Land
Promised (Las Piñas). I
wanted to be there!...
EXAMPLE #2:
2012
But the painting depicts that I
was tossed back again to the
land of the Liberals... I posted
this artwork on my FB wall.
EXAMPLE #2:
2012
On Sunday of that week inside
the church, there was this guy
sitted on the direction facing
where I was facing. He was
wearing a t-shirt with letters
EXAMPLE #2:
2012
enough to be seen from the
distance where I was. It says,
“Out of the blue!”
EXAMPLE #2:
2012
Has it something do again with
the artwork I publicized just a
few days ago? It seems that it
was again meant for me?... A
message sent indirectly!!!
EXAMPLE #3
EXAMPLE #3:
2013
Earlier this year, I had heavy
feelings towards my liberal
superiors. So one time, I
wasn’t able to stop myself to
express that feeling.
EXAMPLE #3:
2013
I made it by making anecdotes
in the form of text messages
which I forwarded to some few
students.
EXAMPLE #3:
2013
In that story, I compared my
superiors to cruel (yellow)
dogs and I was the poor
housemaid being growled at
and gnawed to death.
EXAMPLE #3:
2013
On February 2, 2013 (Saturday),
I was sent by my superiors to
Dumarao Central School for
an extension activity. During
my turn of
EXAMPLE #3:
2013
speaking, a teacher interrupted
for awhile and told the pupils
an anecdote about certain
house & farm animals. She
said that dogs
EXAMPLE #3:
2013
are useful guards against
animals like goats & pigs
tending to mess up with their
master’s yard. (Oh I have started to
become fat again during this time...)
EXAMPLE #3:
2013
Whether or not it has
something to do with my
cellphone messages, the
pattern of messages was the
same – fabled anecdotes...
EXAMPLE #3:
2013
And I consider it a response to
my “yellow dogs” anecdote
which I sent to my students.
Another indirectness!!!
WRONG TURN
Actually, upon my unwillful return to the blue land
of yellow masters a few months after my FB
comment against the now President Benigno
Simeon “Noynoy” Cojuanco Aquino III (August
2010), I have started to monitor any subliminal
message which I can connect to the horrifying
“slaughter” comment received from the
president’s FB page during the campaign period
of year 2010. Understanding “between-the-line”
verbal & written messages can increase one’s
heedfulness and avoid EXPLOSIVE assails to
both physical and moral being. Because of it, I’ve
written every words I could get from the
television, internet & daily life interactions which I
could connect to that unforgettable comment. A
notebook was born out of those reckonings. But
EXAMPLE #4
(EXPLOSIVE eXPERIMENT)
EXAMPLE #4:
2014
Back again to where it all
began... Facebook!...
I conducted a dangerous
experiment...
EXAMPLE #4:
2014
I created a Facebook Account
not bearing my real name &
identity. I used this account to
create an EXPLOSIVE
message against another “L”
EXAMPLE #4:
2014
...person. I’ve known her for
years and she also knows me
personally. She is superior to
me.
EXAMPLE #4:
2014
For security purposes, allow
me not to reveal to you this
EXPLOSIVE message I’ve
composed...
EXAMPLE #4:
2014
...because as expected, it again
gained negative replies which
included grave threats (just
like my 2010 FB mishap).
EXAMPLE #4:
2014
My only point to that fourth
example is that... This
experiment verified the
foundation of this principle:
1st Principle of the Volcanic Eruption Communication Model
“There are messages indirectly
sent (Tamis).
There are messages indirectly
received (Tamir).”
2nd Principle of the Volcanic Eruption Communication Model
“Not all messages are directly
sent (Nomads).
Not all messages are directly
received (Nomadr).”
That simple realization reminds
me of the Communication
Models I’ve learned in college.
Yet, it seemed that none of
those bears the framework I
have concocted:

Notice the figures?
(Seems like a natural
phenomenon...)
Obviously, it’s also a natural
tendency of human beings...
...to communicate indirectly!
(paralanguage, subliminal
messages, etc.)
...and respond to EXPLOSIVE
messages!
(especially if intended upwards)
DISCLAIMER: I didn’t mean to go against Liberal Party nor against my co-
workers in CapSU. They have just been part of my 4 years of discreet
vigilance and reckoning. I don’t want to be their enemy nor of anyone else!
The last experiment, though it gained attention, was only posted on the
wall of that secret account. It was not even spread. Even the witnesses to
that explosive message can testify that such post was not shared to anybody
else’s wall. It was not tagged. The experimenter did not mean to spread
that message. Again, it was posted on the wall of that secret FB account
only. And it was deleted after 10 minutes. Yet, the violent comments lasted
for about 6 hours. I just tested if someone could notice my explosive post on
that account because out of hundreds of FB friends, only few of them (not
even exceeding 20) made likes on my former positive posts prior to that
explosive message. I just wanted to know if my FB friends can really see
my posts or are just ignoring it. LESSON LEARNED: NOT ALL FB
FRIENDS ARE REAL FRIENDS. THERE ARE FB FRIENDS WHO ARE
FOES!
Before I conclude, let me share
to you my poem which bears
the name of my
Communication Model...
