This is presentation is an introduction to the Encyclopaedia Indica Kids: Culture and Ecology, a National Folklore Support Centre project to introduce to children the ways in which culture and ecology produce each other. The formats to do this will include animated folk art, folk tales, entries with scientific information and the role various species of plants, animals and birds play in ritual, myth and folklore. The presentation is illustrated with art collected for animating various folk tales in the Encyclopaedia.

This integrated unit of work explores the connections between Aboriginal and European histories in Western Australia through the lens of history, English, and the arts. Students will examine how friendships and dance shaped interactions between Indigenous and colonial peoples, and how Australia's longest surviving culture maintains connections to country. Activities include analyzing primary sources, an incursion from an Noongar elder, creating artworks, performing dances, reading texts about local Noongar stories, and developing multimodal presentations. The goal is for students to develop understanding of the endurance of Aboriginal cultures and the importance of telling different stories from the past.

Students will examine how friendships and dance shaped interactions between Indigenous and colonial peoples, and how Australia's longest surviving culture maintains connections to country. Activities include analyzing primary sources, an incursion from an Noongar elder, creating artworks, performing dances, reading texts about local Noongar stories, and developing multimodal presentations. The goal is for students to develop understanding of the endurance of Aboriginal cultures and the importance of telling different stories from the past.

This document summarizes the 2010 conference of the International Journal of Art and Design Education (iJADE) held in Liverpool, England. The Deepening Knowledge Project at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education aims to incorporate Aboriginal histories, knowledge and teaching methods into all levels of Canadian education. Kathalaya - Our Story
Kathalaya's mission is to use stories as the foundation for education through establishing an Academy of Storytelling. The Academy offers certificate and diploma courses to train story educators for schools and help visionaries in the field of education. It also conducts teacher training workshops, elements of which include picture stories, mime, voice modulation, shadow play and puppet theatre. Kathalaya provides storytelling workshops for children to stimulate learning and imagination, and weekly story classes in schools to make learning fun by connecting concepts to stories. It has international collaborations and its journey in storytelling began in 1998.

Culture and Ecology - Cultivation, Food, Concepts of Ecology
This presentation was made at the 'Towards a Higher Education of Inclusion, Collaboration and Community Engagement' workshop by D. Narasimhan from the Dept. of Botany, Madras Christian College, Chennai. Professor Narasimhan pointed out that agriculture is the single most impactful shift upon the environment in human history. Settled cultivation wiped out huge swathes of forest and is far more destructive than the much-maligned shifting cultivation, also described as slash-and-burn cultivation. This shift in human practice is integral to cultures and indigenous medicines though. Food has become globalised much before markets ever did - with fruits and vegetables indigenous to locations across the globe become central to Indian cuisine. Sacred groves are praised as examples of culture protecting ecology but are vulnerable to the decisions of hard economics with land needs for agriculture or other purposes shrinking their boundaries. Again, a sacred grove could hold certain species alone as totemic objects while others could be destroyed.

This presentation describes games played by children of the Narikuravar - a nomadic community - settled at Ashakulam in Villupuram, Tamil Nadu. The presentation is an outcome of a workshop conducted at the settlement at the Digital Community Archive that the National Folklore Support Centre is setting up there.

environment for investigating the changes in vegetation cover dynamics. Our study utilizes
advanced technologies such as GIS (Geographic Information Systems) and Remote sensing to
analyze the transformations that have taken place over the course of a decade.
The complex relationship between human activities and the environment has been the focus
of extensive research and worry. As the global community grapples with swift urbanization,
population expansion, and economic progress, the effects on natural ecosystems are becoming
more evident. A crucial element of this impact is the alteration of vegetation cover, which plays a
significant role in maintaining the ecological equilibrium of our planet.Land serves as the foundation for all human activities and provides the necessary materials for
these activities. As the most crucial natural resource, its utilization by humans results in different
'Land uses,' which are determined by both human activities and the physical characteristics of the
land.
The utilization of land is impacted by human needs and environmental factors. In countries
like India, rapid population growth and the emphasis on extensive resource exploitation can lead
to significant land degradation, adversely affecting the region's land cover.
Therefore, human intervention has significantly influenced land use patterns over many
centuries, evolving its structure over time and space. In the present era, these changes have
accelerated due to factors such as agriculture and urbanization. Information regarding land use and
cover is essential for various planning and management tasks related to the Earth's surface,
providing crucial environmental data for scientific, resource management, policy purposes, and
diverse human activities.
Accurate understanding of land use and cover is imperative for the development planning
of any area. Consequently, a wide range of professionals, including earth system scientists, land
and water managers, and urban planners, are interested in obtaining data on land use and cover
changes, conversion trends, and other related patterns. The spatial dimensions of land use and
cover support policymakers and scientists in making well-informed decisions, as alterations in
these patterns indicate shifts in economic and social conditions. Monitoring such changes with the
help of Advanced technologies like Remote Sensing and Geographic Information Systems is
