Automated single cell tracking was performed on A549 non-small cell lung cancer cells using the Operetta High Content Imaging System. Live-cell imaging was conducted every 5-10 minutes for up to 6 hours, acquiring two brightfield images at different focal planes. Digital phase contrast imaging allowed non-toxic labeling-free observation of cell migration. Using segmentation and tracking software, individual cell movements were quantified over time, showing that stimulation with EGF increased A549 cell migration compared to unstimulated cells.

SMC formulates tracking as Bayesian inference to estimate cell locations over time. It uses color histograms as observations and dynamics models for state evolution. The SMC algorithm samples particle distributions representing possible cell states and resamples based on color histogram likelihoods at each time step. Results show SMC can accurately track cells in simulations and microscopy videos, though ambiguities can occur when cells contact each other. Future work involves adding constraints between particles to resolve ambiguities.

Deep learning technologies are at the core of the current revolution in artificial intelligence for multimedia data analysis. The convergence of big annotated data and affordable GPU hardware has allowed the training of neural networks for data analysis tasks which had been addressed until now with hand-crafted features. Architectures such as convolutional neural networks, recurrent neural networks and Q-nets for reinforcement learning have shaped a brand new scenario in signal processing. This course will cover the basic principles and applications of deep learning to computer vision problems, such as image classification, object detection or text captioning.
Deep neural networks
Deep learning and neural networks are inspired by biological neurons. Artificial neural networks (ANN) can have multiple layers and learn through backpropagation. Deep neural networks with multiple hidden layers did not work well until recent developments in unsupervised pre-training of layers. Experiments on MNIST digit recognition and NORB object recognition datasets showed deep belief networks and deep Boltzmann machines outperform other models. Deep learning is now widely used for applications like computer vision, natural language processing, and information retrieval.

Initial testing showed it could successfully image printed numbers and internal structures of fruit fly larvae over time. Further improvements are still needed but this approach shows promise for more efficient multi-sample OCT imaging.

Effective electroencephalogram based epileptic seizure detection using suppo...
Epilepsy is one of the widespread disorders. It is a noncommunicable disease that affects the human nerve system. Seizures are abnormal patterns of behavior in the electricity of the brain which produce symptoms like losing consciousness, attention or convulsions in the whole body. This paper demonstrates an effective electroencephalogram (EEG) based seizure detection method using discrete wavelet transformation (DWT) for signal decomposition to extract features. An automatic channel selection method was proposed by the researcher to select the best channel from 23 channels based on maximum variance value. The records were segmented into a nonoverlapping segment with long 1-S. The support vector machine (SVM) model was used to automatically detect segments that contain seizures, using both frequency and time domain statistical moment features. The experimental result was obtained from 24 patients in CHB-MIT database. The average accuracy is 94.1, sensitivity is 93.5, specificity is 94.6 and the false positive rate average is 0.054.
INTERACTIVE ANALYTICAL TOOL FOR CORNEAL CONFOCAL IMAGING
This document describes the development of an interactive analytical tool for quantitative analysis of corneal confocal imaging data. The tool was developed using MATLAB to provide a more user-friendly interface compared to an existing C++-based software. The tool allows the user to interactively select the region of interest for intensity curve calculation from corneal image stacks collected using confocal microscopy. Animal studies using rabbits and mice were conducted to test freeze injury and photorefractive keratectomy models and collect confocal image data for analysis using the new tool.

Ronald Naumann is the group leader at the Transgenic Core Facility of the Max Planck Institute of Molecular Cell Biology in Dresden, Germany. His job is to produce transgenic mice with altered DNA for research through embryonic stem cell injection using Hamilton Thorne's XYClone laser system. While CRISPR allows for gene editing, Naumann believes embryonic stem cell injection is still needed to generate conditional knockout mice. He produces 15-20 mouse lines per year and follows the Three R's ethical guidelines of replacing, reducing, and refining animal experiments. Naumann also uses Hamilton Thorne's IVOS to analyze viability of frozen sperm used in transgenic projects. He recommends the XYClone and IVOS to other transgenic facilities.

The systems come in a three different bore sizes allowing for imaging of animals such as mice all the way up to rabbits and even non-human primates. The CT component of these systems has been optimized for reduced radiation exposure, rapid acquisition times, and high resolution images; all ideal for the longitudinal studies so commonly performed in pre-clinical research.
The SuperArgus system is uniquely designed to provide consistent resolution across the entire field of view, while maintaining sensitivity and system performance. Reconstruction algorithms have also been implemented to rapidly process and display the acquired images. SuperArgus PET/CT: Advanced Pre-Clinical Imaging for Small to Medium Animals
Positron Emission Tomography (PET) is the gold standard in metabolic imaging, providing high sensitivity to radiotracers used to detect metabolic activity or biomarkers in vivo. The most common uses for PET imaging in pre-clinical research include oncology, neurobiology, cardiology and dynamic imaging.

Omnidirectional Thermal Imaging Surveillance System Featuring Trespasser and ...
This paper proposed an efficient omnidirectional thermal imaging surveillance system featuring trespasser and faint detection. In this thermal imaging system, the omnidirectional scenes in a monitored site such as old folks home, nursing home, hospital etc. are first captured using a thermal camera attached to a custom made hyperbolic IR (infrared radiation) reflected mirror. The captured scenes to be monitored with trespasser or faint detection are then fed into a laptop computer for image processing and alarm purposes. Log-polar mapping is proposed to map the captured omnidirectional thermal image into panoramic image, hence providing the observer or image processing tools a complete wide angle of view. Two effective human behavioral detection algorithms namely: Human head detection algorithm and home alone faint detection algorithm are also designed for monitored the trespasser or fainted people detection. The observed significances of this new proposed omnidirectional thermal imaging system include: it can cover a wide angle of view (360º omnidirectional), using minimum hardware, low cost and the output thermal images are with higher data compression. Experimental results show that the proposed thermal imaging surveillance system achieves high accuracy in detecting trespasser and monitoring faint detection for health care purpose.

1. A new low-cost and portable microwave imaging system is proposed for detecting breast tumors using an ultra-wideband directional antenna array.
2. A compact tapered slot antenna is designed with side slots to enhance gain and directivity while reducing size.
3. An experimental system is developed using a breast phantom containing tumors to validate the antenna and imaging algorithm. Scattered signals are processed to reconstruct tumor images within the breast phantom.
4. Initial results demonstrate this ultra-wideband antenna-based system can successfully detect tumor clusters in breast phantoms, showing potential for clinical use.
Using the 3D Cell Explorer-fluo for fluorescence and holotomographic imaging
Nanolive’s 3D Cell Explorer allows for the creation of very powerful 3D images and 4D time lapses
of living cells with very high spatio-temporal resolution (x,y:180nm; z:400nm; t:1.7sec). Moreover,
imaging with the 3D Cell Explorer does not require the use of any labels since the microscope directly
measures the refractive index of the different substructures of the cell. However, in the context of
molecular or cellular biology investigations, it can be useful to follow fluorescent markers combined
with the refractive index distribution to validate specific structures or to correlate fluorescent signals
and cellular states.

In this application note we will present the time lapse imaging of mouse embryonic stem cells
(mESCs) that have been genetically modified to express the fluorescence ubiquitination cell cycle
indicator (FUCCI), a two-color (red and green) indicator that allows to monitor the cell cycle phases.
We will explain how to use the 3D Cell Explorer-fluo to record movies that require both fluorescence
and 3D refractive index imaging and will propose a solution to analyze the resulting time lapse
experiment.

The MAGIC-5 lung CAD system uses three parallel approaches - region growing, virtual ants, and voxel-based neural networks - to detect and classify lung nodules in CT scans. It was validated on three databases and performs competitively with state-of-the-art systems. In the ANODE09 international competition, the three MAGIC-5 CADs achieved scores between 0.25-0.29 for detecting pulmonary nodules, outperforming other participating CAD systems. The MAGIC-5 project aims to support medical diagnosis and allow large-scale image analysis through developing models and algorithms for biomedical image analysis.

SuperArgus PET/CT: Advanced Pre-Clinical Imaging for Small to Medium Animals
Positron Emission Tomography (PET) is the gold standard in metabolic imaging, providing high sensitivity to radiotracers used to detect metabolic activity or biomarkers in vivo. The most common uses for PET imaging in pre-clinical research include oncology, neurobiology, cardiology and dynamic imaging.
In this Scintica Instrumentation webinar, Tonya Coulthard discusses how Position Emission Tomography is used for preclinical imaging. Omnidirectional Thermal Imaging Surveillance System Featuring Trespasser and ...
This paper proposed an efficient omnidirectional thermal imaging surveillance system featuring trespasser and faint detection. In this thermal imaging system, the omnidirectional scenes in a monitored site such as old folks home, nursing home, hospital etc. are first captured using a thermal camera attached to a custom made hyperbolic IR (infrared radiation) reflected mirror. The captured scenes to be monitored with trespasser or faint detection are then fed into a laptop computer for image processing and alarm purposes. Log-polar mapping is proposed to map the captured omnidirectional thermal image into panoramic image, hence providing the observer or image processing tools a complete wide angle of view. Two effective human behavioral detection algorithms namely: Human head detection algorithm and home alone faint detection algorithm are also designed for monitored the trespasser or fainted people detection. The observed significances of this new proposed omnidirectional thermal imaging system include: it can cover a wide angle of view (360º omnidirectional), using minimum hardware, low cost and the output thermal images are with higher data compression. Experimental results show that the proposed thermal imaging surveillance system achieves high accuracy in detecting trespasser and monitoring faint detection for health care purpose.

2. A compact tapered slot antenna is designed with side slots to enhance gain and directivity while reducing size.
3. An experimental system is developed using a breast phantom containing tumors to validate the antenna and imaging algorithm. Scattered signals are processed to reconstruct tumor images within the breast phantom.
4. Initial results demonstrate this ultra-wideband antenna-based system can successfully detect tumor clusters in breast phantoms, showing potential for clinical use.
Using the 3D Cell Explorer-fluo for fluorescence and holotomographic imaging
Nanolive’s 3D Cell Explorer allows for the creation of very powerful 3D images and 4D time lapses
of living cells with very high spatio-temporal resolution (x,y:180nm; z:400nm; t:1.7sec). Moreover,
imaging with the 3D Cell Explorer does not require the use of any labels since the microscope directly
measures the refractive index of the different substructures of the cell. However, in the context of
molecular or cellular biology investigations, it can be useful to follow fluorescent markers combined
with the refractive index distribution to validate specific structures or to correlate fluorescent signals
and cellular states.
For this purpose, Nanolive developed the 3D Cell Explorer-fluo (https://nanolive.ch/fluo/) – a
complete solution that combines high precision tomographic data with high quality tri- or fourchannel
epifluorescence provided by a CoolLed module (https://www.coolled.com/).
In this application note we will present the time lapse imaging of mouse embryonic stem cells
(mESCs) that have been genetically modified to express the fluorescence ubiquitination cell cycle
indicator (FUCCI), a two-color (red and green) indicator that allows to monitor the cell cycle phases.
We will explain how to use the 3D Cell Explorer-fluo to record movies that require both fluorescence
and 3D refractive index imaging and will propose a solution to analyze the resulting time lapse
experiment.

The MAGIC-5 lung CAD system uses three parallel approaches - region growing, virtual ants, and voxel-based neural networks - to detect and classify lung nodules in CT scans. It was validated on three databases and performs competitively with state-of-the-art systems. In the ANODE09 international competition, the three MAGIC-5 CADs achieved scores between 0.25-0.29 for detecting pulmonary nodules, outperforming other participating CAD systems. The MAGIC-5 project aims to support medical diagnosis and allow large-scale image analysis through developing models and algorithms for biomedical image analysis.

GASTROINTESTINAL INFECTIONS result from the ingestion of pathogens that cause infections at the level of this tract, generally being transmitted by food, water and hands contaminated by microorganisms such as E. coli, Salmonella, Shigella, Vibrio cholerae, Campylobacter, Staphylococcus, Rotavirus among others that are generally contained in feces, thus configuring a FECAL-ORAL type of transmission.
Among the factors that lead to the occurrence of gastrointestinal infections are the hygienic and sanitary deficiencies that characterize our markets and other places where raw or cooked food is sold, poor environmental sanitation in communities, deficiencies in water treatment (or in the process of its plumbing), risky hygienic-sanitary habits (not washing hands after major and/or minor needs), among others.
These are generally consequences (signs and symptoms) resulting from gastrointestinal infections: diarrhea, vomiting, fever and malaise, among others.
The treatment consists of replacing lost liquids and electrolytes (drinking drinking water and other recommended liquids, including consumption of juicy fruits such as papayas, apples, pears, among others that contain water in their composition).
To prevent this, it is necessary to promote health education, improve the hygienic-sanitary conditions of markets and communities in general as a way of promoting, preserving and prolonging PUBLIC HEALTH.
Gastritis and Gastric Health
Gastric Health is one of the most relevant concerns in human health, with gastrointestinal infections being among the main illnesses that affect humans.
Among gastric problems, we have GASTRITIS AND GASTRIC ULCERS as the main public health problems. Gastritis and gastric ulcers normally result from inflammation and corrosion of the walls of the stomach (gastric mucosa) and are generally associated (caused) by the bacterium Helicobacter pylor, which, according to the literature, this bacterium settles on these walls (of the stomach) and starts to release urease that ends up altering the normal pH of the stomach (acid), which leads to inflammation and corrosion of the mucous membranes and consequent gastritis or ulcers, respectively.
In addition to bacterial infections, gastritis and gastric ulcers are associated with several factors, with emphasis on prolonged fasting, chemical substances including drugs, alcohol, foods with strong seasonings including chilli, which ends up causing inflammation of the stomach walls and/or corrosion. of the same, resulting in the appearance of wounds and consequent gastritis or ulcers, respectively.
