The document proposes a new business model called Vendor Relationship Management (VRM) that allows consumers to manage their relationships with vendors on their own terms. VRM would give consumers tools to express preferences and intentions to buy or pay for things like public media in a way that works for both consumers and vendors. A key part of VRM is the "relbutton" which allows buyers and sellers to express their intentions and scaffold relationships in a way that is not constrained by traditional customer relationship management systems. The goal of VRM is to enable better ways for people to pay for things of their choosing and have markets that are not limited to individual vendor platforms.
This document discusses changes brought about by RDA (Resource Description and Access), the new cataloging standard that replaced AACR2. It notes that RDA is designed with the user and modern web environment in mind. Key differences from AACR2 include fewer abbreviations, dropping terms like GMD and rules like "rule of three", and adding elements like relationship designators. The document also discusses potential future developments like linked data and FRBR-based interfaces, and provides resources for libraries implementing RDA.

The document discusses the concept of a "storage hypervisor" which would provide a layer of abstraction between physical storage resources and applications using them, similar to how server hypervisors virtualize servers. It notes that server virtualization has proven very efficient by allowing multiple applications and operating systems to run on one physical server. A storage hypervisor could provide similar benefits by making storage from different vendors and with different protocols able to work together transparently and improve availability, speed, and utilization of storage resources. However, true storage hypervisors that provide all these capabilities in a multi-vendor environment have not been fully realized yet.

The business case for standardizing on a single modern browserDavid J Rosenthal
The document discusses the results of a survey about desktop modernization and browser standardization in organizations. It finds that 74% of respondents listed desktop upgrades as a high or critical priority over the next 12-18 months. 51% of companies have standardized on a single browser for security reasons, though 32% allow alternative browsers. The top considerations for standardizing were security, maintenance, and management. Improved security was the main driver for upcoming browser upgrades. Respondents estimated that a multi-browser strategy costs 20-100% more than a single browser standard. Additional annual web app costs from a multi-browser approach were a median of $4,229 per app.
The document discusses leveraging cloud services to provide new business services for small and medium-sized business (SMB) customers. It notes that SMB customers are increasingly adopting cloud services for functions like security, storage/backup, desktop productivity apps, and business apps. However, many SMBs' current IT providers are not educating them about cloud or software-as-a-service (SaaS) options since they do not make money from them. The document suggests cloud services can help address SMB customers' IT needs in a way that traditional on-premise software and resellers may not.

Removing Uninteresting Bytes in Software FuzzingAftab Hussain
Imagine a world where software fuzzing, the process of mutating bytes in test seeds to uncover hidden and erroneous program behaviors, becomes faster and more effective. A lot depends on the initial seeds, which can significantly dictate the trajectory of a fuzzing campaign, particularly in terms of how long it takes to uncover interesting behaviour in your code. We introduce DIAR, a technique designed to speedup fuzzing campaigns by pinpointing and eliminating those uninteresting bytes in the seeds. Picture this: instead of wasting valuable resources on meaningless mutations in large, bloated seeds, DIAR removes the unnecessary bytes, streamlining the entire process.
In this work, we equipped AFL, a popular fuzzer, with DIAR and examined two critical Linux libraries -- Libxml's xmllint, a tool for parsing xml documents, and Binutil's readelf, an essential debugging and security analysis command-line tool used to display detailed information about ELF (Executable and Linkable Format). Our preliminary results show that AFL+DIAR does not only discover new paths more quickly but also achieves higher coverage overall. This work thus showcases how starting with lean and optimized seeds can lead to faster, more comprehensive fuzzing campaigns -- and DIAR helps you find such seeds.

6. STORAGE LANDSCAPE OVERVIEW
Storage doesn‟t matter!
‒ IOPS, apps and ops are not the point.
Storage “tail” wagging the IT “dog”?
‒ Last bastion of awkwardness is “Ponzi storage”
Major challenges: Scale and flexibility
‒ Change inevitable
Industry consolidation and dynamics
‒ The converged, integrated, stacked, automated promise

7. WHAT TO KNOW, WHAT TO LOOK FOR
The „Assumption Gap‟
Why you even need to know (i.e. how we got here)
99% of the time a non virtualized storage
environment = a sub optimal storage environment
‒ Close to an IT „no brainer‟
Look for –
‒ Heterogeneity
‒ Commitment
‒ Proof
7
9. WHAT IS STORAGE VIRTUALIZATION?
Technology as hope!
‒ Operational fluidity and utilization efficiency
‒ The foundation to balance [absolutely] escalating storage
demands with [relatively] constrained resources
Disassociates physical hardware from system usage
‒ Part of overall virtualization (servers)
‒ Can address „Ponzi storage‟
‒ Not new or voodoo
Should be on your „to do‟ list

17. ‘THE BIGGER TRUTH’ : ESG
RECOMMENDATIONS
• Plan, plan, plan (SLAs and measurement).
• Size performance as well as capacity.
Basic
• Focus on training and best practices: to develop cross-
discipline resources (people/tools/technology).
• Choose scalable (performance / capacity) platforms–more
Progressing than “killer features”–to manage OPEX challenges.
• Focus on a) interoperability and b) integrating storage and
VM replication.
• Monitor and control and/or provision storage capacity
Advanced growth.
• Experience does not always equal ease–plan for complex
VM backup and recovery demands.
