The rehearsal focused on learning the hand jive motif from "Born To Hand Jive" so that it could be combined with previously learned jive choreography. Key movements of the hand jive included slapping, clapping, and bouncing. The dancer learned the hand jive choreography quickly and maintained energy throughout the rehearsal. Areas for improvement include ensuring the bounces are timed correctly with the music and practicing lifts with a partner.

1. Learning choreography for “Born To Hand Jive”-
The focus of today’s rehearsal was to learn the key hand jive motif from “Born To Hand
Jive”. Once this has successfully been completed we will combine this with the key
characteristics we previously learnt for the jive.
My SMART target for this rehearsal was to learn the choreography quickly and effectively in
order to be able to combine this motif with the other jive choreography.
During this rehearsal we learnt all of the chorography for “Born To Hand Jive” this included
key characteristics of the 1940’s and 1950’s popular dance movements. The hand jive motif
we learnt included slapping, clapping and bouncing movements within it, these are all key
characteristics of the jive.
My strengths during this rehearsal were using the energy and enthusiasm needed by
including lots of bouncy movements while performing the hand jive gestures. I learnt the
hand jive choreography quickly and efficiently which is important when performing within
the industry to ensure I remained focused throughout rehearsals and being a good team
member. I also remained the same amount of energy throughout this rehearsal which is
important as it helps me to sustain energy and enthusiasm when performing.
I still need to continue practicing the hand jive choreography to ensure my musicality
improves when bouncing to ensure that my timing is correct. I also need to arrange some
extra rehearsals with my partner to ensure I can perfect the lifts within the hand jive
choreography.
Before our next rehearsal I will plan an extra rehearsal with my partner to ensure we can
successfully perform lifts and to guarantee that the remaining choreography within “Born
To Hand Jive” is in time together and with the music. This will help to ensure our company
can use our rehearsal time effectively. We will continue to rehearse both as a couple and
also with the rest of the company to ensure the overall performance of “Born To Hand Jive”
is neat and precise.
