Connor Wake redesigned the book cover for his story. He experimented with 5 different front cover designs using various images, fonts, and colors. His favorite cover used his own photography of a landscape that looked over a "kingdom". The text was in black to stand out against the brightened and blurred photo. For the spine, he used part of the same favorite photo with the title text in black. The back cover reflected the front cover image but with smaller text in a different font and effect.

2. Book Cover 1
This cover was originally was meant to be a front
cover that was all aimed at type and just type. I
experimented with different fonts and positions but
found that this was my best idea, however i think it
is a bit plain as there is a big gap with nothing there.
I used the colours as they contrast well being red,
white and black.

3. Book Cover 2
For this book cover i used a big K at the beginning
to bring the attention to the title, this also looks like
a fairy tale beginning what adds more decoration. I
also made the k bigger as it is the start of both
words in the title. I added a big picture of a wave in
the style of Hokusai a japanese artist. I used this as
it links in with the boat scene when the boat hits a
wave and crashes. I used the colour black as it
stands out and i used the colour blue as it links with
the colour of the ocean.

4. Book Cover 3
This book cover was based around my own
photography, i used this as it is looking over a
‘kingdom’. I used that black text so it stands out and
can easily be read. I edited the photo to look
brighter and like the picture was sped up and a little
blurred to make it look better. This is my favourite
book cover and the one i intend to use.

5. Book cover 4
For this book cover i again used photography. I
used my brother to look like he just came up from
beneath the water or about to go under the water. I
edited the picture to make it look distorted and
blurry. I had the text at the bottom and it is a light
grey to make it look like the water. This is my
second favourite variation and i was inspired by
Alban Grosdidier who focuses on images to do with
water and drowning.

6. Book cover 5
For this version i tried to focus on the image and
text equally and i also tried to make it more like a
kids book so it appeals to them. I did this by
making the font decorative by adding a clipping
mask making the text turn into waves what links to
the story as they try to travel the world on a boat
before it crashed and i also created a cartoon
image of a monk, this relates to the story as it is a
monk who saves Michael and his dog and makes
them stronger and able to survive on this island
with him for many years.

7. Spine and back cover
For the spine i used the same photo as my
favourite photo but i moved the image
across to make it a different part of the
photo, i then used the same text as the title
and the black again so it contrats. For the
back i reflected the same image as i used
on the front cover but i used a different font
so it is smaller and works better. I used an
effect on the text to make it look better and
also used black for the text so it stands out,
contrasts well and is easily readble.
