4 existing children books
1. Giraffes Can’t Dance
In terms of the visual style it is bright
and simple making it effective for the
age range it is aimed at. The Giraffe on
the front could be perceived to be
artistic. The layout of the text and
images is again what you would typify a
children’s book to be like. With the
image filling the page and big bold text
placed where there is space within the
image. This Board Book is 32 pages and
is written by Giles Andreae. ‘Giraffes
Can’t Dance’ is published by Cartwheel Books. Finally the product
dimensions are 7 x 5.4 x 0.7 inches. This Book is illustrated by Guy
Parker-Rees. The title font is more than simple however with it almost
being given a whacky sort of title with the text far from straight. This
however makes the book look more appropriate for it’s age range of
children.
Where Do Diggers Sleep at Night?
Where Do Diggers Sleep
at Night? Is again plain,
simple and effective for
the age bracket that
it is aimed at. Just like
Giraffes Can’t Dance
2. the image is seen to be covering the page with big bold text with the
writing stylised again in a whacky font. The Style is more textured
especially around the moon. This book is 26 pages with the product
dimensions being that of 7.5 x 0.6 x 6.1 inches. It is published by
Random House Books and has an age range between 2-5 years. This
book is written by Brianna Caplan Sayres and is ranked 188th
in
Amazons best sellers rankings. Christian Slade illustrates this Book.
3. The Goodnight Train
The goodnight train uses a
contrasting use of brightness and
darkness throughout the book but
again maintains the fact that it
is simple and effective for the age
bracket it is published for. The
style of the images however is
very cartoon like and reflects
little resemblance of a real train.
This is due to the shape and size
of this particular mode of
transport. The text and image layout is again different to the first
two as on some occasions the image fills the background, while other
times light backgrounds are applied with image and text placed onto it.
The Goodnight Train is 30 pages and is published by HMH Books. It has
product dimensions of 7.5 x 0.7 x 6.8 and is written by June Sobel.
Laura Huliska Beith illustrates the Book.
The Selfish Crocodile
The Selfish Crocodile is again visualised
as Bright and simple. Michael Terry
originally illustrated it in June 1998.
The animals in this book appear to be
self-drawn very realistically. This
paperback consists of 32 pages and
was written by Faustin Charles. The
product dimensions are 27.3 x 0.6 x
19.1 cm. The text on the front cover
is relatively simple but again made
slightly aboriginal with the styling of
the font. The stunning illustration in this book makes the story come
4. to life. Throughout the selfish crocodile the illustrations fill the page/s
with text placed where deemed necessary. Fortunately in this case
most illustrations are accompanied by the sky, which gives appropriate
spacing for text. On the rare occasions sky is not present they still
find away around it by fading things out to again fit the text in.
