LIVING THE LIFE YOU WANT TO?
The act of making improper and unfavourable comments about another person's
weight or size is known as body shaming. Body shaming is more prevalent than
ever in a generation dominated by social media and fitness models. People
believe that their opinions are important, even if they are hurtful. Body shame is
caused by being overweight or underweight, or not conforming with society's
ideals of being "thin and attractive."
BODY SHAMING NEGATIVELY IMPACTING SOCIETY


You may not be aware of your behaviour or use the appropriate words, but
you may also body shame others. Make sure to use appropriate language
and to be particularly sensitive to others. We must all cease body-shaming
since it might result in trauma and low self-esteem.

We have no control over what other people do or say, but we do have control over
whether or not we succumb to the body-shaming loop.

and recognising that feeling good about yourself is important for your mental health.
Regardless of the form or tone of your skin, you should adore it. You should be
appreciative of your good health. Be appreciative for what you do have rather than
focus on what you don't.
Have control of your emotions if you're encountered by body-shaming comments on
social media. Remove people that make you feel bad about yourself from your life or
unfollow them on social media.
It's your social media, and you have control over how it's used.
Follow the pages of influential people who promote body positivity. If you wish to
improve your physical condition, you can visit fitness inspiration or health promotion
websites. Look for pages that promote self-acceptance if you want to be more positive.
BODY SHAMING – A FORM OF CYBERBULLYING
Cyberbullying has existed since the inception of
social media. Body shaming, or making
disparaging comments about the appearance or
size of another person's body, is a widespread
kind of cyberbullying.
Body shaming may turn these sentiments into a
constant and overwhelming experience. According
to the 2016 Girls' Attitudes Survey, 47 percent of
girls aged 11 to 21 say their appearance holds
them back and limits what they can achieve. 94
percent of young girls have been body shamed,
and 57 percent of 12- to 20-year-olds believe their
bullying was motivated by their appearance.

Body dysmorphic disorder (BDD)
Body shaming has major consequences and can lead to
psychological problems. The negative impact associated with
body shaming are:
HOW TO RESPOND TO BODY SHAMING COMMENTS?
React with kindness instead of getting into a quarrel with someone who has body-
shamed you. You could response in a positive way like, "Thank you for your
concern”, If you don't say stuff like this in the future, I'd appreciate it." So that
things don't become any worse, don't continue to dispute and walk away from the
conversation.
WHAT TO DO WHEN SOMEONE IS BODY-SHAMING YOU?
Most importantly react politely in such situations. Never initiate a fight or
retaliate by criticising someone's body, as this will just add to your stress. You
should encourage positive support rather than making negative remarks.
