Summer Programming 2017
During the summer, we offered families the following
programming…
● Summer Academy - 4-weeks of enrichment and remedial
programming 4 days a week
● Friday Field Trips - Field trips every Friday to
different locations around the community
● August Summer Camps - Art, STEM, and Superhero
● Boys & Girls Club - Wrap around programming outside of
our summer school offerings
● Various sports summer camps and school orientations
Enrollment...
Camps - Each of our summer camps brought in initial
enrollment numbers of 200+ students.
Summer Academy - Our 4-week summer programming brought in
350 students at River Heights and almost 900 students at the
high school.
Friday Field Trips - each Friday 60 students went on field
trips around the district. This offering fills up within
the first 12 hours of the enrollment window opening.
Credit Recovery ...
Students had the ability to revisit a number of different high
school courses to recover credit prior to the start of the
upcoming school year.
Algebra I Algebra II Geometry Physical Science
English 1 English 2 English 3 Intro to Social Studies
Biology Health Civics
In Science recovery alone, 27 students regained credit for a
semester class they failed during the school year!

Summer in
SDMA...
Food Service
Fed a free lunch to almost 1000
students a day
Free breakfast to almost 600
each day
We provided free busing throughout
the 4-weeks of summer Academy
and 3-weeks of Summer camp
Students enjoyed participating in
enrichment classes and activities
throughout the four weeks of
summer Academy.
Here, a student enrolled in our
fishing class shows us her catch at
knapp pond.
Field Trip Fridays
Fishing
Students went fishing at Knapp Pond
Gymnastics
Students explored tumbling
Outdoor Cooking
Students went to the Environmental
Site and learned how to cook over
an open fire.
Theater
Students got a tour of the Mabel
Tainter Theater.
Summer Camps
three different camps were offered during
August for sDMA students…
● Art - 10 different artists worked
with students for a week
● STEM - imagine cool experiments
every day using science, technology,
engineering, and math!
● SUPERHERO - Students pretended to be
superheroes for a week...practicing
their math and literacy skills to save
the world!

to work with artists in
residence this summer during
our 1-week Art Camp.
