 Human brainisthe wonderfulcreationof God.
 Butwe lossthe knowledge of a brain after the death of
man.
 Blue brainis the name of world’sfirstvirtualbrain.
 IBM and EPFL, Switzerlandisdeveloping blue brain.
INTRODUCTION
3
 It isa machine that can functionas human brain.
 Mainaim is to uploadhuman brainintomachine.
 So after the death of a person we willnot lose the
knowledge whichcan be used for the development of
human society.
BLUE BRAIN
4
What is virtual brain?
 Artificial brain whichacts as the brain.
 It is possible by a super computer and an interface between
humanbrain and this artificial one.
 By this interface data stored in humanbrain can be
uploaded into thecomputer.
5
Why we need virtual brain?
 Intelligence is an inborn quality.
 To keep the brain andintelligence alive even after the
death.
 Significant impact on medical field.
 For people with short memory.
6
How it is possible?
 It is possible by the use of smallrobots known as the
nanobots.
 These robots are smallenoughto travel throughoutour
circulatory system.
 Will monitor activity of brain by travelinginto thespine and
brain.
 They willprovide an interfacewith computer.
7

throughsensorycell.
 Interpretation :-

inthebrain.
 Motor Output:-
Receivingofelectricresponsesfrom thebraintoperformanyaction.
HUMAN BRAIN
9
A COMPARITIVE STUDY
Through the natural neurons.
By different states of the neurons
in the brain.
Throughthe silicon chip or
artificialneurons.
By aset of bits in the set of
register.
10
Throughthenatural neurons.
Througharithmeticandlogical
calculations.
Throughpermanentstatesof
neurons.
Through the siliconchip.
Through arithmeticand logical
calculationand artificialintelligence.
Through Secondary memory.
11
 IBM, in partnership with scientistsat Switzerland’s Ecole
Polytechnique Federal De Lausanne’s(EPFL) Brain and Mind Institute
started blue brain project at 2005.
 Henry Markram is the director.
 FelixSchumann andSeanHillare co-directors.
 Usingblue gene super computer runninginMichael Hinn’s Neuron
software.
BLUE BRAIN PROJECT
12
 Blue gene is a 4-racksystem that has 4,096 nodes, equal to8,192
CPUswith apeak performance of 22.4TFLOPS.
 The BlueBrain simulation uses one microprocessor for each ofthe
10,000neurons inthecortical columnof a rat's cerebral cortex.
 It helps to build a brainmicrocircuit, inorder to scale it in human
brain.
13
 2002: Henry Markram founds Brain MindInstitute at EPFL.
 2005: IBMandEPFLagree to launchBlue BrainProject.
 2006: Biologicallyvalid simulation of auto-generated cortical
column.
 2007: Modelingand simulationof 1st rat cortical column.
 2008: Corticalcolumnconstructions and simulations.
PROJECT TIMELINE
14
 2009: BlueGene/L replaced by BlueGene/P.
 2014: Cellular-levelsimulation of entire rat brain,Neuron
simulation software ported to DEEP(DynamicalExascale Entry
Platform) Cluster-Booster type system.
 2020: Exascale simulation start onDEEPCluster-Booster
productionsystem.
15
 2023: Cellular-levelsimulationof entire human brain.
16
ADVANTAGES
 Remembering things without any effort.
 Making decision without the presence ofa person.
 Using intelligence ofa person after the death .
 Understanding the activities of animals .
 Allowing the deaf to hear via direct nerve
stimulation.
 A solution for many psychological diseases.
17
DISADVANTAGES
 We become dependent upon the computer
.
 Others may use technical knowledge
against us.
 Another fear is found with respect to
human cloning.
 A very costly procedure of regaining the
memory back.
 Computer viruses will be a threat.
18
 A model of entire brainat the cellular level will probablytake the
next decade.
 Study inbrain functionandmalfunctionfrom accuratemodels of
brain.
 Further inthe future, the real dreams wouldbe the realization of
the “brain-in-computerand chip-in-brain”arrangement.
 This is just ’blinkofaneye’…there’s lot more to come…
FUTURE PERSPECTIVES
19
 Gatheringand Testing of 100 years of data.
 Cracking the neuralcode.
 A novel tool for drug discovery for brain disorders.
APPLICATIONS
20
 We willbe able totransferourselves intocomputers at some point.
 It willbringbothbenefitsandharm tohuman society .
 Eventually aim ofapplying terrificcomputer powertothesimulationofan
entirebrain.
 Very soon this technology willbehighlyaccepted whole over the world.
