Blood cells consist of three main types - red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets. Red blood cells are the most numerous and function to transport respiratory gases like oxygen throughout the body. White blood cells exist in different forms and provide immunity by fighting pathogens. Platelets assist in blood clotting and healing of minor wounds.
