Tip no. 2: Understand your business and your target group first. Don’t think that you can sell your
great idea to anybody who sees no own value in it.
Step 1: Business need: Define business goals, gaps and desired outcome
Step 2: Gather and Analyze: Collect data to get to know your target group
➢ Talk to your main stakeholder(s) to investigate the intention of the project when it comes to understand the correlation
to business goals, the gaps you are facing and the outcome you want to achieve.
➢ Through interviews with 2 or 3 other key stakeholders find out what are the exact outcomes needed, to understand if a
gamification project makes sense in this context or not.
Suggested time investment: 45 mins per person.

Tip no. 2: Understand your business and your target group first. Don’t think that you can sell your
great idea to anybody who sees no own value in it.
Step 1: Business need: Define business goals, gaps and desired outcome
Step 2: Gather and Analyze: Collect data to get to know your target group
➢ To collect more data and get a clearer picture, talk also to key performers and standard performers of the topic you
want to address.
➢ Observe, describe and analyze persona: Observe around 3-20 individuals of your target group in their day to day work
or, in case this is allowed from the individual, also in their private surrounding. Take as many notes, pictures and
persona descriptions as you can. To analyze your persona, you might want to identify their extrinsic motivators (simple
personal rewards but also job related rewards) and intrinsic motivators (family, friends, interests), and identify their fun
motivators. Observe their work about 1 hour, talk to your persona in a coffee break for a better atmosphere on top and
then analyze and understand.
Suggested time: 1.5 hrs per individual + writing down the findings: 1 hour per individual

Don’t think that you can sell your great idea to anybody who sees no own value in it. Step 1: Business need: Define business goals, gaps and desired outcome Step 2: Gather and Analyze: Collect data to get to know your target group ➢ Talk to your main stakeholder(s) to investigate the intention of the project when it comes to understand the correlation to business goals, the gaps you are facing and the outcome you want to achieve. ➢ Through interviews with 2 or 3 other key stakeholders find out what are the exact outcomes needed, to understand if a gamification project makes sense in this context or not. Suggested time investment: 45 mins per person.

Step 1: Business need: Define business goals, gaps and desired outcome Step 2: Gather and Analyze: Collect data to get to know your target group ➢ To collect more data and get a clearer picture, talk also to key performers and standard performers of the topic you want to address. ➢ Observe, describe and analyze persona: Observe around 3-20 individuals of your target group in their day to day work or, in case this is allowed from the individual, also in their private surrounding. Take as many notes, pictures and persona descriptions as you can. To analyze your persona, you might want to identify their extrinsic motivators (simple personal rewards but also job related rewards) and intrinsic motivators (family, friends, interests), and identify their fun motivators. Observe their work about 1 hour, talk to your persona in a coffee break for a better atmosphere on top and then analyze and understand.
