Tip no. 13: Define your success: For this, define metrics to measure your success and to improve in a
continuous improvement cycle.
When answered the main question of the targeted behavior (tip no. 3), it is essential to define success metrics. In the upper
case it seemed that there was a communication problem. But you might want to formulate now your target as:
Engage management to use the communication channels we as a team prefer or simply “Find relevant communication
channels to engage management and team”. To define your metrics, you need to define first of all what “engage” means in
your context and how this can be measured. Examples could be:
➢ Define a no. of invitations to your manager to have 1:1 meetings to discuss important steps and outcome
➢ Invite manager to share important topics as first agenda point in every team meeting
Other examples could be: A manager talks about “I want high quality blogs written by my team.” In this case, you need to
describe what “quality” means to you: Does it mean:
➢ More likes on a blog?
➢ More relevant questions raised?
➢ More readers?
➢ More articles shared?
➢ More comments?
You will then get a clear picture of what you want to measure.

When answered the main question of the targeted behavior (tip no. 3), it is essential to define success metrics. In the upper case it seemed that there was a communication problem. But you might want to formulate now your target as: Engage management to use the communication channels we as a team prefer or simply “Find relevant communication channels to engage management and team”. To define your metrics, you need to define first of all what “engage” means in your context and how this can be measured. Examples could be: ➢ Define a no. of invitations to your manager to have 1:1 meetings to discuss important steps and outcome ➢ Invite manager to share important topics as first agenda point in every team meeting Other examples could be: A manager talks about “I want high quality blogs written by my team.” In this case, you need to describe what “quality” means to you: Does it mean: ➢ More likes on a blog? ➢ More relevant questions raised? ➢ More readers? ➢ More articles shared? ➢ More comments? You will then get a clear picture of what you want to measure.
