Day 1 of filming focused on Richard Bolter's scenes, including stationary shots, moving the camera horizontally opposite his running direction, and asking him to look in different directions. Day 2 involved filming environmental elements like wind moving trees and grass to add to the cut sequence. Day 3 centered on filming Grace wearing a denim jacket, including stationary and pan shots as well as using camera straps and a lanyard to create spinning footage while she laid down. Day 4 was dedicated to filming Ellie for the opening sequence, including takes of her falling to her knees and running through an alley.

Day 1 of Filming
I dedicated today for filming only one cast member (Richard Bolter). I began with meeting him at the
location with him wearing black and grey coloured clothes. I thought that when it came to editing his
clothes would complement the monochromatic screening. I first filmed a part of his scene (where he
is running) with a stationary tripod. I found that this to be a smoother action than if I was filming the
scene hand-held. I also tried moving the camera horizontally in opposition to Richard’s running
direction. I found that this is effective and I will most likely use it in my opening scenes.
These are some pictures of the make up for Richards axe wound for the opening scene.
Back to the location, I filmed Richard using different instructions. He asked him to either look at the
floor, where another cast member will be laying in another shoot, and also in other shots to look
directly at the camera. This will give me a varied choice of directed emotions that I can use. I also
used different camera angles and close-ups. I feel that the canted angles were the best represented
of a horror film.
Towards the end of the shoot, I realised that the sun was quite
low and when Richard stood in front of it I couldn’t see his face,
just his silhouette. In step with the idea of the films storyline
where the young adults are drugged then murdered, I asked
Richard to slowly turn and tumble in a circle as if he was drunk.
This will be included in the cutting sequence and will add the
storyline of a high man.

Day 2 of Filming
Today was to film small pieces without the rest of the actors involved. This is so I can add odd parts
of the scenery to put into the cut sequence. I included filming how the wind affects the surrounding

2. environment, the trees, the grass, branches that hang low from trees. My favourite part was a small
piece of blue thread that I found tangled in the twigs dropped in between the sets of railings on one
of my settings. I would like to include this in my film because it can suggest that it belonged to one of
the characters who wold have had to run past. I wanted to catch the wind affect the surroundings to
show how quickly and forceful this sudden change can be. However, despite the windy weather on
the day of filming, I struggled to get the reaction I wanted. I can use some of the footage I filmed,
which will be useful when I am editing my film. However, I feel that if I the footage I filmed will get in
the way of my time limit, I will have to discard it.

Day 3 of Filming
This day was dedicated to filming another actor (Grace). I asked her
to wear a denim jacket which I thought would look well with the
monochromatic saturation of the film. I never had to use the tripod
during our time filming. I began with her standing on the same
field/location where I have filmed the past few times, and filming
stationary and pan shots of her at different zoom lengths. During
filming, I asked Grace to lay down for part of the film, and decided
to try a new technique. Using my camera strap and my sixth form
lanyard, I created footage which seemed like it was spinning. I could have done this freehand but
when I practised it was very bumpy and didn’t reach the effect I was aiming for. The camera straps
hook near the top of camera at both sides. Since the lens had to be facing down to capture the
footage (Grace on the ground) using my lanyard, I needed the camera to be securely held
horizontally so it would fall and hit the actor. I hooked one end around the lens with the other end
held with the camera strap. This meant I could dangle the camera over the actor using both straps. I
twisted the camera so that when I release the twist the camera would spin. I was very happy with
the outcome of the footage and will be using this as part of my film.

Day 4 of Filming
This day was dedicated to my final actor Ellie. We filmed the beginning of my opening sequence. I
asked Ellie to wear a white shirt and black jeans which contrast with the monochromatic filter I am
planning to edit into my film. I began with the falling to her knees for the final shot of my film, which
took several shots to get the right movement (her knees hitting the ground before her hands). After
that we filmed her running through the alley. The entire shot took about half-hour, the shortest film
period I had experienced for this project.
