Day one of production (January 26th 2020) had a number of issues
that I had to accommodate for, the first being the actors. The day
before filming one of my actors had a last minute work schedule
change, meaning that he had to work every Sunday. To deal with this
issue, I decided to film the scenes he wasn't due to feature in. We
discussed another date he was free in order to film his shots.
Therefore, I didn't have to waste a day of filming. A second issues
was the wind interfering with the camera mic, I decided that I would
continue to film regardless. I plan to either reduce the ambient noise
in Premiere Pro during the editing process, or to just completely dub
over it with a better quality ambient sound.
Despite the issues I had to overcome during that day of filming, it was
still productive and efficient. I worked my way through each shot I
needed, taking multiple versions to ensure I had enough material for
the editing process. By the end of the day I had filmed two out of the
5 scenes for the entire short film, including a few possible shots to
add in if need to improve continuity.
The first scene I filmed was scene 2 with my actor Lauren, who plays
the criminal. This was filmed in front of an unused chapel in the
cemetery I scouted, using a camera, mic and tripod. The tripod I used
allowed me to take pan shots. I deliberately filmed each shot for this
scene so that the camera was slightly unsteady, this fits into the found
footage genre of my film. Where the footage is supposed to be filmed
unprofessionally and found.
The second scene I filmed was scene 4, once again with my actor
Lauren. This scene included another panning shot using a tripod,
moving with the character as they walk along. An issue I faced while
filming this is timing, I struggled to move the camera in time with the
character's walking. The second shot in this scene was a long shot,
filmed so that the camera was handheld. Creating a sort of point of
view shot at the same time, putting the audience in the character’s
place. The issue I had with this shot was the pause, where the
character stands still, we struggled to find the correct amount of time
to pause. To overcome this situation, I stepped away from the camera
and walked through the motions with the actor, together we were able
to determine how long she should pause for.
I edited together a compilation of the outtakes I decided weren't
suitable to be used. A common issue that made most of these shots
unsuitable was the timing of the camera movement. At some points
the camera either can't follow the character fast enough, or it moves
too slowly and drags the shot out unnecessarily. Both of these
instances made me decide to I will not use these shots during editing.
></div>
Overall, I am pleased with both the progress and the quality of the
footage.

Day one of production

  • 1. Day one of production (January 26th 2020) had a number of issues that I had to accommodate for, the first being the actors. The day before filming one of my actors had a last minute work schedule change, meaning that he had to work every Sunday. To deal with this issue, I decided to film the scenes he wasn't due to feature in. We discussed another date he was free in order to film his shots. Therefore, I didn't have to waste a day of filming. A second issues was the wind interfering with the camera mic, I decided that I would continue to film regardless. I plan to either reduce the ambient noise in Premiere Pro during the editing process, or to just completely dub over it with a better quality ambient sound. Despite the issues I had to overcome during that day of filming, it was still productive and efficient. I worked my way through each shot I needed, taking multiple versions to ensure I had enough material for the editing process. By the end of the day I had filmed two out of the 5 scenes for the entire short film, including a few possible shots to add in if need to improve continuity. The first scene I filmed was scene 2 with my actor Lauren, who plays the criminal. This was filmed in front of an unused chapel in the cemetery I scouted, using a camera, mic and tripod. The tripod I used allowed me to take pan shots. I deliberately filmed each shot for this scene so that the camera was slightly unsteady, this fits into the found footage genre of my film. Where the footage is supposed to be filmed unprofessionally and found.
  • 2. The second scene I filmed was scene 4, once again with my actor Lauren. This scene included another panning shot using a tripod, moving with the character as they walk along. An issue I faced while filming this is timing, I struggled to move the camera in time with the character's walking. The second shot in this scene was a long shot, filmed so that the camera was handheld. Creating a sort of point of view shot at the same time, putting the audience in the character’s place. The issue I had with this shot was the pause, where the character stands still, we struggled to find the correct amount of time to pause. To overcome this situation, I stepped away from the camera and walked through the motions with the actor, together we were able to determine how long she should pause for. I edited together a compilation of the outtakes I decided weren't suitable to be used. A common issue that made most of these shots unsuitable was the timing of the camera movement. At some points the camera either can't follow the character fast enough, or it moves too slowly and drags the shot out unnecessarily. Both of these instances made me decide to I will not use these shots during editing. ></div> Overall, I am pleased with both the progress and the quality of the footage.
