 IP PBX and SIP to ISDN Gateway:
 Description:
ISDN to SIP gateway bridges the gap between the traditional telecom users with the latest IP based
Audio/Video conference systems. The gateway does the conversion from H.323 bases IP systems and the
ISDN based conference systems. ISDN being a traditional system has very less support as compared to
SIP and H.323 systems. The video is translated from H323 to H225. Mesh support was provided so that
some one can open multiple video outputs on same display device like a tab.

various kind of interfaces which includes but not limited to traditional PTT handsets, Enterprise systems
like scanners, RF ID scanners, PTT Web interface, Other PoC systems like Qchat, Mobile clients running
on different kind of platform including iOS, Windows NT, Android etc. This feature brings together PoC
service on various kinds of cellular technologies starting from GSM, LTE and Wifi and in other side IP
systems like IMS and internet.
This feature also enables 4G network like LTE and iDEN network inter working so that subscriber from
each side can call each other using iDEN dispatch capabilities. This feature ensures QoS for signaling
and bearer path for all dispatch calls according to 3GPP recommendation. This feature uses the 3GPP
PCC specs and IETF Diameter ( RFC 3588) protocol to ensure QoS for calls.

 My Role:
I have worked as Technical Architect and for this feature. I was involved in this project from System
requirement creation till development. I have created the system architecture documents and Software
design to develop this feature. I have coordinated with different architects of different technologies and
combined the solutions for LTE, SIP and Android systems and came up with the overall architecture of
Unified PoC solution.
 Challenges and Learning:
This project needed collaboration among different teams located in different geographical location each
owning different technology. Different kind of technologies was involved out of which I was new for
some like Mobile Client interface. The core system demanded a convergence of all interface with the
core system, where all interfaces working with their corresponding technology and the core supporting all
in a synergy. I learned how to create a seamless system design and creating an architecture where various
system components can be reused to create one core system. I learned to define interfaces for various
technologies and got exposure to new technologies. The interfaces include the Android Client API to SIP
conversion. SIP messages to iDEN messages conversion. The WEBRTC application to iDEN messages
conversation. The OMA PoC messages to SIP message conversion. I established the mobility
management and call processing design for the core infrastructure. Due to good work in this project I got
opportunities to work with Motorola wide global system engineering team.
 Language: C, C++, SDL, UML
 Platform: Linux on ATCA 7367 blade.

 Group calldetailed billing:
 Description:
Our system is capable of doing a group call where each originator can make a call to maximum of 1000
targets. This is a unique and most powerful feature of iDEN which no other technology in world can do.
This feature enables the operator to create billing for each talker in a group call which can involve 1000
participants and can go on for 3-4 hours. When this feature is enabled CDRs will be generated for all the
unique talkers in the call but when the feature is disabled only 1 CDR will be generated for the call i.e.
only for the Originator of the call.
.
 My Role:
I worked as a Technical Architect for this feature. I did the system design and interface design between
the billing parser and billing record generator. I was involved in defining the system requirement and
gathering customer requirements and creating a clear feature requirement for internal development teams.
I was also involved in designing the software to achieve the requirements.
 Challenges and Learning:
This is a unique project in sense that group calls can accommodate 1000s of talkers and it’s difficult to
keep track of each talker during the entire duration of call and maintaining the time taken for each talker
during the call. Another aspect was the interfacing with the billing parser which is a third party system
and we had to maintain the format of the CDRs same still providing information for each talker in the
CDRs. A very complex data structure was designed to accommodate the change and a new design
approach was formulated to create the CDRs in run time without impacting the performance of the
system. I learned to design a high available system and adapting design to minimize the overall changes
in the system. My design could reduce the cost of the project by 20% and due to perfect test case creation
we could successfully deploy the system without any defects. This exceeded the six sigma goal targets.
 Language: C, C++, SDL
 Platform: Carrier grade Linux on ATCA 7367, Cisco 7365 and Nortel Switches.
 Technology: Telecom billing.
 Client: KTP Korea.
 CapacityImprovement of Surveillance gateway:
 Description:
Surveillance gateway network element provides voice and data surveillance for the subscribers which are
under surveillance from the Police Department. Motorola sells this network element to various customers
according to the country specific surveillance rules. The default gateway is capable of doing surveillance
on 1000 unique subscriber and 100 simultaneous calls. This feature enhanced capacity to double the
current limitation and supports 2000 subscribers and 200 simultaneous calls surveillance.
.
 My Role:
I worked as lead design engineer for this feature .This feature was my concept and I had created the High
level solution document and got the project estimate approval from customer to develop the project. I did
the prototype and design of the solution and provided technical guidance to development and test team.
Bikrama K.L PAGE 7 OF 6
 Dispatchcall from Facebook
I developed this concept and created prototype to demonstrate how to do a dispatch call from Facebook.
This is based on one of my technical papers submitted in 2012. I demonstrated this feature in KTPO
Bangalore in “Motorola Srjana 2012” event where participants across globe demonstrate new concepts
and products.
An application runs in Facebook which provides a GUI where the user can make a call to any PTT
subscriber across globe.
The challenge here was to provide real time voice to the customer. This was achieved by designing a
vocoder, which converts PCM data from microphone to VSELP in the app itself and sends the VSELP
packet to the PTT network. Another challenge was to convert SIP messages to Motorola PTT proprietary
messages. A gateway was created to do the conversion.
 SMSC for Comverse:
 Description:
The Comverse SMSC is world’s one of the best short message service centers. The SMSC is capable of
handling group SMSs, planned SMSs, SMSs from external application to phone and vice versa. The
product interfaces with GSM, CDMA and ESME. I have worked on designing and developing the Store
and forward engine of the SMSC which takes care of delivery of SMSs to designated targets across all
networks.
 My Role:
I worked as technical lead for this feature.
 Language: C, C++,
 Platform: Linux
 Technology: GSM, GPRS, SMPP, P2P.
